I have a hard time seeing Machen even at his best not eventually getting broken down and stopped against Marciano.
EDIT: This was a reply to @swagdelfadeel ‘s earlier post but didn’t identify itself as such - prob because the post I replied to was embedded in the quote. So yes, in a round a bout way I’m blaming Swag. Good point. IF Machen’s injured right arm/hand was the ONLY reason Eddie fought very cautiously and didn’t open with both hands - then it might be viewed as a blessing in disguise, allowing Machen to at least last the distance. Even with two good hands, I somehow have the feeling that Eddie still wouldn’t have opened up on Liston lest he be knocked out - like his old mate Zora Folley was not long prior. That version of Machen might’ve been sufficient to avoid Foreman’s more definitive bombs and have George floundering and highly vulnerable in the late rounds - at least the post Zaire version of Foreman if not the prime version. Liston’s 12 round UD was excellent and installs itself well into the perception of Liston’s all round abilities. including his ability to adapt and box out the whole fight as and when necessary.
Marciano but even as a Rocky cheerleader, I say that at Machen's best, its a great fight along the lines of the first Charles bout.
Machen being better than LaStarza is debatable. I'd argue that they were on the same level. Both were good enough to become the number 1 contender. Also, considering the way Ingo was able to force Machen to a corner and demolish him I doubt Machen would holdup against Marciano long enough to go the distance.
Sorry I messed up the quotes! Was so confused when I got a notification that you quoted me and didn’t see anything.
No worries, I’ve messed them up plenty of times. Pain in the arse to fix up tbh. But you still got a notification? - lol.
