So the ones he took punches from are not credible? Or Shavers was tested against any great from the last 30 years? You are a well-know Rocky hater.

Shavers has losses from nobodies as tall as Rocky.

It is very possible, because of styles, that Rocky Marciano would be tested early against hard hitting Ernie Shavers. In this case I think Rocky would pass the test, get off the floor if he had to, and stop Ernie Shavers later in the fight.

Wrong! I am on record several times as saying Marciano was.
    1.A great fighter
    2.A great champion
    3.A fine man

    I haven't even made a pick here!
I correctly said Marciano's chin was never tested against a modern sized heavyweight who was a puncher and it wasn't, in fact he fought very few top drawer punchers.
The best two punchers he fought both dropped him ,one was 38, the other 39 /41 depending on whether you believe him or his Mother .
Nobody is telling me Shavers did not hit harder than Walcott and Moore,so we can at least entertain the possibility Shavers can win this,or at least those of us who are not Rocky Fan boys and think he was unbeatable.

Shavers retired 28 years ago,but he did prove he was capable of koing class men,
    6 '3" 225lbs Norton
    6'1" 200lbs Ellis
    6 2" 199lbs Young
    Dangerous Roy Williams 6'5" 231lbs
    And flooring Holmes and Lyle.
The longer the fight goes the better Rocky's chances ,but in the early rounds ,when he had a tendency to take a while to get into his groove,he would be in real danger.

Earnie Shavers had brain numbing power but did not have the stamina to match his power.

Muhammad Ali took Earnie Shaver's blows for 15 rounds on Sept 29 1977 in a nationally televised title bout aired by NBC live, Shavers almost went down in round 15 from exhaustion.

I legitimately have to think about this one. I'm completely stumped.

He could still punch and was one of the ATG punchers of the sport.

I think that the KO 1 that Jerry Quarry laid on Earnie Shavers on Dec 14 1973 will never be forgotten, many have often questioned Shavers heart against ranked competition.

But NOT one of the all time great HEAVYWEIGHT punchers.
I think he stopped 3 ranked heavies,
Bivins who was a puffed up lhvy
Lavorante who was fleetingly ranked because he beat Folley.
And Baker who was in and out of the ratings due to bad hands and inconsistency.

    Quarry broke his jaw.
I don't question Shavers heart ,he hung in there against Holmes and took a hiding.

How many heavyweights had Ali's chin?

Agreed, I need to rephrase it. Shavers hit hard but petered out after not knocking out his opponent.

True mcvey, not many and yet there are posters who still point to Muhammad Ali's decking by Henry Cooper on June 18 1963 prior to his title bout against Sonny Liston. I think simply it was a case of a young undefeated overconfident contender who had no regard for Cooper's left hook.

I think Rocky would win a shoot out. He's more of a bruiser and Shavers got dispatched by men who weren't anywhere near as stone
