When someone takes a 37 year old fighter with tons of mileage on him and tries to make a case that he was prime on the sole basis that he troubled the living **** out of another in his last fight, in an effort to build up the credentials of the said fighter who was troubled, the argument is pretty much self defeating.
-Yeah, but Charles was only 32 in that first fight. He doesn't belong in this old man grouping. -There was no barren CW division in the 50s to escape from. -I don't know, you brought the big lug into this. -Probably. He seemed to be Rocky's hardest filmed fight.
That and he just won the title by knockout against his all time great than only 29 year old rival and perhaps got away with the decision in the rematch. That's three straight excellent perfromances against all time greats, he was doing something right. It's hard to say he was "finished" Waclott was an abnormality anyway, you know his story. Late bloomer.
He arguably lost 3 out of 4 against that past prime former middle. Good thing he got lucky and found an opening in at least one of those meetings. :good
Yes, because they were never exclusive to either division. They regularly fought top LHWs and HWs at the peak of their success.
I can define when his prime wasn't.When he was 42 years old ,facing Marciano. And this is something Moore agrees with me on. Olson was a blown up middleweight who scaled 170lbs for Moore, he was kod by SRR that same year and again the next.Stopping him does not indicate you are in your prime.
In those days 32 was considered old. Especially for a guy who had nearly 100 fights of mileage and fighting out of his best weight class, and on the verge of huge downward spiral. No but he'd definitely need one if he were fighting in the 90's. Because no way is Marciano making a living at heavyweight To illistrate how ludicrous it would be if his entire legacy was built on beating a shot fighter in the last bout of his career. You wouldn't stand for it and neither would I. Of course. He was in his late 30's, with 16 career losses and in the last fight of his career, yet he decked Rocky and was leading on the cards into the 13th round. Explanation : he had to have been awesome.
I think this is nonsense. I won't accept that Moore and Charles were prime at heavyweight and neither will most.
His prime was lightheavyweight. Not heavyweight. Shouldn't even be an argument, but I have no doubt you'll continue to make one :good
Mongoose. I'm going to make this easy for you and everyone else, so that we can all leave the office for the day and go home and eat dinner. 1. Walcott, Charles, Moore, and Louis were past it. 2. Rocky Struggled life and death with a few of them 3. Charles and Moore were not prime at heavyweight 4. Evander Holyfield TKO Rocky Marciano Fair?
