Louis was past his best when he fought Marciano but he was up for that fight and in top condition, he was still formidable but not the Brown Bomber of old, still Marciano would have never ever been easy for him, styles ...I remember guys like Emile Griffith being shot but beating everyone but the best and even surviving the great Monzon in the rematch...Tyson KO Holmes when Evander and others could not could not. I dont think many could have KO'd old Joe but a few like Ezzard would have beaten him... Marciano had the style and greatness to do so and only the 3rd man to beat him in almost 70 Heavyweight fights

Prime Louis would have, I agree. Prime Louis would most proberbly have destroyed everybody. Charles might not ever have destroyed Brion, nor would many other prime champions. In fact, Charles did not destroy Brion when they did meet in 1952. Charles still had plenty left then.

Dempsey was a nice guy in later life but he had a high voice as a young man. . I think Rocky was always a regular guy, quiet ,modest ,and unassuming , but definitely not a guy to **** off.Peter Wilson called him," a 20th century cave man."

One thing is for sure as highly as I think of Holy he never fought someone who would punch him anywhere and everywhere for 15 rds like Rocky would. Being Indomitable in spirit is Rocky's strength not to mention his style of leaning back over his back leg forcing opponents to reach to connect and with his short arms he could generate tons of power close as opponents were off balance trying to hit him.

Both guys had something in common ,they both went bald because they rubbed their scalps into their opponents faces and wore away their curly locks. Marciano, leaning constantly to his right would make it hard to land the right cross and trying to do so would put one in danger of over-reaching and walking into a biggie. The punch to nail Rocky with was the left hook imo ,he was perpetually bending towards an orthodox fighters lead hand. Walcott nailed him perfectly with the hook ,unfortunately for him it just ****ed Marciano off.

No, you are addressing things that it seems everyone here (including me) agrees with and making a point of it like you are fighting an uphill battle against a world gone mad.

Nobody said Louis was at his best in 1951, and nobody is ignoring Moore's comments about his legs. Yet you continue to attack these phantoms of your own invention useless post after useless post. Keep fighting the good fight, Crusader.

But never the same during his comeback. Louis said his last great fight was with Mauriello, that's 5 years before he faced Rocky.

He was still 39 tho. It's always good to have some athleticism to use to keep someone off of you. If you can't keep a brawler like Rocky off of you, due to old age, it will be a problem. Unless you have great defence.

You just can't be in your prime at 39.

38 actually. And again, we aren't talking physical prime. Moore's physical prime likely ended after his stomach ulcer surgery rather early into his career.

While it may be good to have alot of things, Moore just wasn't an athletic fighter in his most successful years. He used punching power, hand speed, a high ring IQ, and his perfected cross armed defense to beat younger and larger opponents. In retrospect this wans't enough but at the time he was thought to be Marciano's boogeyman, and the most deserving and dangerous contender for him. Rock was accused by the media of ducking him before finally making the fight.

Can you give an alternative prime for Moore's unusual late blooming career? 49-55 are his most consistent years with his biggest achievements.

Holy isn't staying on the outside out boxing Marciano. When Holy got tagged he got angry you could see it and he got into a brawl. At heart Holy loved to brawl. George Benton tried teaching him all his defensive moves and he just kept pissing George off because he resorted to brawling. Holy combined that boxer brawler style great but sometimes the brawler part won out too much as it would against Rocky. Rock takes this fight.
