Floyd had speed and could punch but Floyd got hit. He would not survive 15 with that Rocky. No way.

What ever the reason it certainly was not because there was anyone in 1956 HW ratings who anyone thought might beat marciano. Rocky just knocked out the #1 contender who in turn beat both #1 and #2 contenders Baker and valdes. Valdes knocked out Jackson, Satterfeild beat Valdes and Satterfeild himself had lost by knockout to Ezzard Charles. There was utterly nothing coming through the ranks that would look remotely like an outdoor fight in 1956. Floyd did not face a rated HW himself until two months AFTER Rocky retired. Floyd was not a contender until that win.

he we've 'sparred' over the years, no didn't miss that one and, as a nine year old, my dad woke me up (against mom's wishes) and told me that my hero had been 'stopped'. I said face down out to lunch which so many on board think all of the big boys would have done to him, despite getting nailed by ATG punchers who couldn't keep him down.

Even a a Floyd fan, Arch looked far less in shape than he did in the Marciano fight.
