Myquestion exactly. Either way,I'd take Patterson to build up an early lead causing Rocky all sorts of problems. Marciano's pressure would pay dividends my halfway through and he'd stop Floyd sometime after the ninth.
I say ko 2 for Marciano. If Ingo can do a round 2 ko over Patterson, I belive Marciano can repeat it.
Patterson's quick hands and reasonably quick feet might allow him to build an early lead (make it narrow - after all Rocky was no idler) but I say that Marciano would get to him sooner or later.
Patterson doesn't have a good enough pop to knock down Marciano IMO. And I don't think Patterson would take that Right cross, too powerful...
I think Floyd gives him a fight for a few rounds but Rocky turns the tide after four or five and stops him inside of ten in a real beat down ..
The slugger version of Marciano in the early 50s knocks patterson out early. Too strong, powerful, and relentless for floyd, who will go toe to toe with rocky. Floyd fares much better against the mid 50s swarmer version of Marciano who didn't possess as much one punch power, and early striking ability. I still see floyd losing to that version of rocky, but it would be later in the fight rather than sooner..and floyd would take multiple rounds off rock.
I can see this being a very entertaining fight, but I can't see Floyd Patterson winning it.. Marciano had too great of a combination of power, stamina, chin, heart, workrate and everything else.. Floyd concerns me when being matched against all time great punchers, particularly those who were durable and could go 15 rounds if they had to.. Patterson had plenty of skill, but no way is he going to just outbox the Rock for an entire evening, and should he decide to mix it up with him, would get the short end of the stick.... Marciano wins by KO or stoppage... Not sure which round.
Definitely not going the distance, but i don;t think it's a foregone conclusion to which way it goes personally. I'm undecided, but i could be swayed.
I know, that's a poor post up there. Marciano is my personal long standing choice as the definitive head to head nightmare, relative to his size of course.
You actually think patterson could slug with a early 1950s rocky marciano? Rocky is just too strong, powerful, relentless for a vulnerable floyd. Every ATG puncher floyd faced, he got knocked out by. Liston did him in 1 twice. Johansson did him in 3. Goof troopers Brian London, Pete Radamacher, Tom Mcneeley, Roy Harris floored him. I personally think this is a horrible matchup for floyd. It takes a Liston or a foreman to outslug Rocky imo. Patterson ain't gonna do it. Rocky around 1951-1952 could put your lights out with 1 punch, and could do it at any time in the fight. He could also be on top of you of volumes of power punches non stop for 15 rounds. Floyd can't take one of rocky's bombs, let alone 10 in a row. Floyd may be much faster than Rock, but Rocky's overwhelming advantage in strength and durability negates patterson's speed advantage. 1952 Rocky KO 2 Patterson
I personally think a 1949 Ezzard Charles matches up far better against Marciano than a 1956 Patterson does. Patterson was near unbeatable against other boxers at his best, but against ATG punchers with massive strength, stamina and durability advantages? He does not match up well.
