The Rock gets him after starting slowly, catching him somewhere in the 6th or 7th along the ropes, turning the tides and taking over the fight. Maybe Tunney makes the full 15 :smoke
I think Tunney does better than Lastarza2 and at least as well as Charles 1. He is more mobile, and quicker afoot. He might steal a decision in one fight, over three I think he would get nailed because of the accumulation of punishment over the series. Very few fighters performed to their best after meeting Marciano.
I like Rocky in this one, and unless it gets scheduled for 10 rounds I don't think Gene hears the final bell. Rocky in 12 or 13.
Tunney races away with the fight and is way ahead until Marciano's constant pressure finally slows him up and leads to a Marciano ko around the thirteenth. At the time of stoppage Tunney's approximatley four points ahead on the cards.
I used to think that rocky would wear Gene down and ko him late...but over the years I've come to realize just how underrated Tunney still remains. I think he would have had at least as good an evening as Charles in that first bout with Rocky..and maybe even better, since Tunney had a better chin and was a bit faster and more disciplined a boxer. Tunney was far, far superior to Roland LaStarza also...something else for adding grist to the mill. Tunney would have gone 15 for sure with marciano...and maybe even have beaten him in a very gruelliing 15 rounder.
Tunney. The man was so clever he is very understimated. Not only that Rocky never fought anyone like Gene a mover,a real mover a guy who could literally dance 15rounds. I believe Gene will respect his power before or during the fight and then jab his way to victory. Gene didn't really slow down in the later rounds which is why I think he wins.
Tunney was one of the smartest and best boxers in the history of the sport...but we're talking Marciano here...Gene has nothing to keep Rocky off of him...The Rock by KO...
Marciano was much higher volume than Dempsey. Against Tunney, Dempsey basically wasted a lot of energy bobbing and weaving (which is exhausting) when he should have been throwing punches. Dempsey should have let his hands go. Also, I think that Marciano was much more dangerous than Dempsey on the inside. From the things people are saying about Tunney's movement, you'd think he ran from Dempsey for 20 rounds. That's not the case. Tunney was sometimes on the front foot and was actually able to bully Dempsey at times. Overall, Tunney looked stronger than Dempsey.
