That wasn't prime Foreman against Qawi, even though Marciano would also lose to that version of Foreman. Frazier had better defense than Marciano and couldn't make it past the third round. I doubt Marciano would last that long.
Who did Marciano ever fight that was like Prime Foreman? Nobody. Charles, Walcott, Louis, and maybe LaStarza were the only guys Marciano fought even worth mentioning. Walcott was actually a great fighter, but far from unbeatable. He had a questionable chin and a bad habit of dropping his hands at bad times. Charles was tough as nails, but had no real power and was already feeling the effects of Lou Gehrig's disease when he fought Marciano. Joe Louis was also pretty much shot. He still gave Marciano problems for a few rounds and then tired as he was fighting well above his prime weight. LaStarza is known for fighting Marciano and that's about it. Don't get me wrong, Marciano was tough as nails and no doubt could hit, but the plain fact is he never saw anyone like prime Foreman, or Ali for that matter. And had he fought in their era he does not go 49-0, though he would still have been a top fighter.
Marciano would ko both Ali and Foreman. However, it is all speculation obviously. Many from yesteryear that knew them all say the same thing. The words I recall were that Ali said Marciano hit harder than anyone he had fought. the response was due to a question about why he had temporarily withdrawn from the bouts with Marciano.
What are you talking about? The only proposed bout between Ali and Marciano was on a video game and since Ali never fought Marciano, how did he know how hard he hit? Ali was just being gracious to the old champ.
It's incredible how overrated Marciano is, some lunatics even believe he'd be a top fighter at HW today The no-defense-having light heavyweight caveman was only good at outslugging old washed up champs, and even went life and death with some of them. Ran for the hills when young, strong fighters like Liston and Patterson started to appear I blame the ¨0¨
Yeah, you can't go by what fighters say all the time. Larry Holmes also said Marciano couldn't carry his jock strap. Supposedly, they did have some sparring sessions, I do recall Ali saying Marciano hit extremely hard, but not harder than anyone he fought. That was Earnie Shavers. some have said he would have beaten Ali, but no one ever said he'd beat Foreman. Anyone who knows boxing knows that was a terrible matchup for Marciano.
I agree to an extent, but I think Marciano would have a shot at beating Ali, simply because Ali was not known for his punching power. He might beat Frazier, Lyle, Norton, or Shavers as well cause those guys were not known for their chins. The only ATG heavyweights I wouldn't give Marciano much of a shot against are George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, or Vitali Klitschko. Just to big, tall, and powerful. To many things working against him there. Anyone else, I think he'd have a shot at beating, although Tyson and Holmes would be iffy fights for him too.
Liston would have also been a terrible matchup for Marciano, probably the worse. I can't see Marciano having a shot against most modern heavyweights but that's just me. I think Marciano v Frazier would have been a helluva fight.
I forgot about Liston, but I think Marciano might have a shot at him simply because he was only six foot. Marciano could hit him without having to reach up to far. It could go either way, I'd give Sonny the advantage but I don't think he's beyond the Rock.
You come across as a rational fellow. Liston probably had the longest reach of any heavyweight champ and would have killed Marciano if he tried to get inside. Given the level of Marciano's competition, how does that extrapolate to wins over prime modern fighters who are much larger? I never have understood that. Maricano wasn't that skilled, just tough. Wins over atg fighters who were on their last legs never justified wins over prime fighters to me. Moreover, given Mariciano's size, I just can't see him beating hardly any of the following heavyweight champs. Mind you, I am an old guy that watched Robinson fight live on Gillette Friday Night Fights.
What stage of their career were these ATGs at when Marciano fought them? I think the skill level of this current era of heavyweights stinks and takes boxing back to the time of Jack Johnson but let's be real, I would even give the novice Bronze Bomber Wilder a good chance of laying out Marciano.
