No one has it yet going to the cards ,, me neither .. Marciano KO .. I see Rocky having big problems with a guy like Liston or Holmes.. but as much as I like Dempsey . .I think Marciano out lasts him

A battle of the fittest...and who was more fit than Rocky Marciano?

    1. None of this means anything in a Dempsey-Marciano fight no matter how many times you bring these quotes up. If I had the time, I could easily make similar quotes on behalf of Dempsey.

    2. Which common opponents faced Dempsey and Marciano to prove Marciano hit harder?

How I see it. Speed is the decider in a great fight.

I said this won't go the distance, no matter who wins (and I didn't wake up and change my vote to Dempsey, but Jack could absolutely without any shadow of a doubt win this mythical fight). I'll also say that no matter who wins, both fighters will not come out of this mythical fight unmarked and non-bleeding and both of them will come out of it beaten all to hell.

For the same reason that the "Foreman Vs. Shavers" fight I predict that Foreman will win (better chin), I also predict "Dempsey Vs. Marciano" that Marciano will win only and only because of the better chin.
Maybe it would be the hardest match in Marciano's career, but he would win in the end. And it is possible that Marciano would have been on the floor more than once, but in the end he would have won.

I see no reason to believe Marciano has the better chin tbh. Dempsey imo was more proven against punchers. We’d know a lot more had Marciano faced Valdez as his resume is devoid of punchers.

None of these wonderful little quotes change the fact Dempsey had faster hands, was a faster start with the record for 1st round KOs, was a better finisher, hit plenty damn hard himself and was also very durable, and Rocky was sometimes a slow starter, clumsy, and with leaky defense.

Rose tinted quotes are not a substitute for what we can see on film.

Rose tinted quotes from the people who actually fought, trained with and knew him, as oppossed to some guy on the internet.

Dempsey had more first round KOs because his competition wasn't as good. As proven, he had a good defense...you just don't understand it.

People have said similar quotes about Cleveland Williams in terms of his punching power compared to Liston. To bad it didn't do him diddly squat when they actually fought.

Also these quotes have nothing to do with Dempsey for the most part, other than Louis implying he didn't know whether Dempsey could beat Marciano.

Dempsey was being modest imho. Most of Marciano's opponents had to be battered into submission over the better part of a fight. He wasn't a Liston, Foreman, Tyson, or even Dempsey who could bomb his opponents out quickly. He often had to wear them down. He'd never replicate Dempsey's performance on Willard in a million years.

It’s kind of hard to go against the guy that never lost.

Honestly in those days every new generation brought forward better skills then the generation before them. And Marciano came after Dempsey.
