Two of the classic Heavyweight Champions driven by pure determination, but who wins?
    Give me your take.

Dempsey blitzes Rocky before he gets into the fight. Too fast, powerful and explosive early on and I don’t think Rocky will be in there long enough to exploit his stamina advantages.

I don't rate Dempsey much. Didn't fight black fighters.

Wills, Langford, Siki, Godfrey...even Johnson. Hell, he could have fought Greb.

Everyone can come in and debate the plausibility all they like, but at least some of these guys were on the table.

Anyway, Marciano, who fought the best.

Not even 3 comments in and someones already pulled the 'black fighters' card which has nothing to do with the question posed. Hilarious.

    Dempsey inside 5.

Well it does because we don't even know if Dempsey was the best of his era. Those who think they really have a gauge on him are a bit self-delusional.

Dempsey. Dempsey was the giant killer while the biggest knock against Marciano was his era was small.

Anybody who thinks Langford, Siki, Godfrey and Johnson were somehow deserving of title shots is delusional.

They were not better than Miske, who was sick at the time? Siki was not better than Carpentier, whom he beat?

    And Wills?

I think you have some soul searching to do.

Yes I’ll take the fella who’s better in almost every category. Dempsey too explosive for Marciano.

Siki was never a factor in Dempsey's career.Langford was a past it, half blind relic when Dempsey was champ Johnson was in his 40's.
    Sheppard
    Baker
    Bivins
    Henry
    Maxim
    Murray
    Thompson
    Valentino
Were on the table when Rocky was coming up ,and when Champ ,Valdes those fights did not get made.

Marciano, Dempsey's an overrated unterchampion who ducked more than he fought and exclusively fought the lowest hanging fruit while claiming a racial situation that conveniently lasts for his career.

Tommy fought black men and the best in the world at his time

Johnson also fought black men and the best in the world during his time.

Willard had to fight blacks to be champion, also best in the world at the time to lose his title. Just imagine the BS people would make up if Jess feasted on a heap of white LHWs who didn't actually do very well against black contenders but got to fight for the title anyway.

Dempsey fought the likes of Miske who our pal Vey will defend to the end of time but was little more than a sparring partner, no hoper, low fruit, easy work, should be a blemish to this man's legacy but instead we will pretend Billy Miske was worth a ****.

Tunney was also a racist coward who ducked and dodged his way to a tainted title and didn't even fight HWs.

Oh ****, we're right back to champions who fought black men and the best in the world by the time Max has reigned.

    Hmmm

I think it's cute folks bag on Marciano's resume and act like Dempsey's was more than a circle jerk between the handful of whites capable of contending well with the blacks of the era.

IMO Dempsey's the champion of tired old white dudes who are desperate to believe they have any great ones on the all time scale. Dempsey, Jeffries, and Marciano all seem to be picked up by these types but Dempsey is the king of them, probably because he and Tunney were such open racists.

No one Dempsey ever beat sees round two with Marciano.

    Charles ****s Dempsey up

    Walcott ****s Dempsey up

    Moore ****s Dempsey up

Dempsey probably take out a tired Louis and fatso Cockell. That's it. I'm not convinced he beats Roland.

Walcott not a baggable win because he was old, who cares if he'd never performed better, he was old.

Breenan is a baggable win because he lost a lot and didn't really do anything but was white and got smashed by Dempsey in the 20s.

and y'all expect me to believe racism has nothing to do with those opinions. Sure buds. I believe you.

I think I go for Dempsey, like I did the last ten times this fight was suggested.

    Dempsey early or Marciano later.

Personally I think Marciano has the better record head to head and probably the better chin. I lean towards him somewhat.

I could rip up just about every point here but as I’m pressed for time, I’ll leave it at my favourite highlight…the idea Johnson fought the best of his time as Champion.
