I don't think I've ever seen this match up made before. How do you think the fight would go down? Let's assume the best version of both in a 15 round fight.
I realize that Braddock was not one to get stopped or KO'd on frequent occasion, but I don't think he makes it to the final bell here.
Marciano winning - This is almost murder. Only hope that Braddock could survive to count the money. He would not even be able to walk to the bank for a week. Woller
Prime Braddock hangs tuff against Prime Marciano, but Marciano finally wears his man down for the 11th round KO... MR.BILL
Braddock at his best would trouble Marciano a bit. In the beginning. As good as Jimmy was and as durable as he was, Marciano would start breaking him down, cut him, hurt him and stop him. Braddock would never ever fight again. edit: I accidently voted Braddock by KO though.
It's rather bizarre that many claim Braddock was over-the-hill when he was KO'd by Louis in 8 rds up in Chicago in 1937. But the truth is, Jimmy Braddock was ONLY age 31 yrs..... And, considering that Braddock was a hard working "Dock" worker in his day, he had conditioning year around... MR.BILL
Marciano Tko14 Braddock. Braddock had good conditioning, but so did Marciano, and Marciano's constant pressure, mixed with solid power, would wear Braddock down late, and force a ref stoppage imo.
Rocky wasn't much heavier than Light Heavy and fought as low as 178 up to 190 his whole career. He was definitely undersized when compared to many heavyweights of his day and WAY undersized when talking about todays bunch that go 230+ on many occasions. My pick, Rocky by KO between 8 and 12.
I do think Braddock makes the final bell as he's obviously very game, was only stopped by Louis and I think he can spoil a bit in this fight. It would be very one-sided though and a vicious beating.
So Braddock beats a truly murderous puncher in Baer over 15, and goes for a game challenge against a prime Joe Louis and lasts 8 rounds, but Marciano murders him? It's no wonder I can't take this board seriously.
I got to agree with Seamus for once, there is some pretty lazy stuff in this thread. Part of the problem is Braddock. For him, the word "peak" really means something. Throughout his career he had hand problems, but never a chin problem. When he came back, he beat the #1 prospect, the #1 contender, a fighter with a serious style advantage who would normally have beaten him, and then the most destructive champion in history up until that point. He had a superb jab, great small moves, was arguably as good as Rocky on the inside in his own way, accurate, defensively alert and enormously tough. Louis knocked Braddock out after Jim had been out of the ring for two years, and he had to get off the deck to do it - he also had to put nearly fift stitches in Braddock's face to do it. And he is a different machine, precision. Marciano, against a good defensive fighter, we know what he did, he beat them into submission, beat there hands down, beat their shoulders, beat their bodies, beat their gloves, he did whatever he had to do to break them. Well, Braddock was unbreakable, and he proved that as far as I am concerned. Marciano doesn't break Braddock. And Braddock doesn't fear Marciano. "This is one guy you're going to have to flat out beat Chappie, Braddock doesn't scare." Blackburn to Louis. Marciano would outwork Braddock, i've almost no doubt of that, but it wouldn't be a "one sided beating" and it wouldn't be a knockout, and yeah, Braddock would fight again, just like he did after Louis re-arranged his face. I'd be genuinely surprised by any result other than a Marciano points victory. I do think a Marciano KO is more likely than a Braddock win, but I'd be very surprised.
