    Who would win this fight?
There are so many heavyweight discussions but I haven't seen a thread about this fight till now.

Rocky by KO in 8-10 rounds. (Maybe less) Ellis was a very good fighter. He had a sneaky right hand with some power behind it. If he is lucky, he might drop Marciano. But, even if that happens, Rocky will get up and continue with his tenacious, methodical beating. No way Ellis wins this, and, Jimmy would have to be extremely fortunate to see the final bell.

Jimmy one of the few elite fighters of the late 60s / early 70s who shares the profile of Marciano's preferred victims.

    Marciano grinds him down.

It would be like Frazier - Ellis, maybe a few rounds more. Ellis could handle Bonavena, but certainly not Marciano or Frazier. No disrespect, Ellis was a good fighter, but there were limits.

Jimmy is a clever boxer, but not strong enough to keep Rocky off of him, it is possible he might outbox the hell out of Rocky, but at the end would cut the ring off, beat him down with his volume punching and stop him, somewhere in the 7th round.

Marciano by stoppage but Ellis would be a challenging opponent.

This, and I’m a huge Ellis fan.

Jimmy would find his successes, especially early, but he was prone to be more aggressive at times than decorum would dictate was in his best interest. That and Marciano’s relentless (but not reckless) pressure would prove Ellis’ undoing.

I also could see Jimmy dropping the Rock but he might make the mistake of gaining a bit too much confidence from it.

Marciano, in this fight, is inevitable. But I think Ellis would come out looking very good for his effort.

It’d be a fun one too Ellis was extremely aggressive, unusual for the guy moving up stairs he always looked for an excuse to throw his right.

Yep, gotta agree with what all the other guys are saying.Jimmy Ellis was a very fine fighter, brave, tenacious with underrated power.
However Marciano's extreme,Frazier-like pressue and brutal punches would be too much for Ellis.
Marciano stops Ellis in about 6 or 7 rounds.

They are literally in two different leagues. Only one is an absolute champion, the other shares his time with Frazier, who overshadows him.

Arguments about resume and timing and such nonsense are all opinion based. You guys are in such love with your own opinions and grouping up on the basis of shared opinions you reject every element of boxing created explicitly to allow for sportsman to achieve in this sport without having the right connections or being their own sales representative.

Seriously, every single aspect of boxing that takes your opinion away from you and forces you to acknowledge a fighter based achievements is either denied or made small in favor of anything that allows for opinion sharing.

Rankings have rules, clearly no one cares to learn about them and are constantly shocked when a boxer moves within those rules to achieve something. Out of ignorance fans claim corruption of the bodies. Even though they damn well know they never bothered to look at how their ratings work. Instead just cite alternative ratings that mean nothing and come from the opinions of men who have writing credentials.

Rather than learning the purpose, history, and significance of the bodies and their belts we can just make up alternative intangible belts that don't actually reflect any history in any respect and is the most hypocritical title history has ever known but don't let that bother you because we're going to invoke history anyway with John L. While we explain how our opinion ratings dictate vacancies.

Oh you really like this man's resume and he looks really good to you when you watch his vids? Who cares if he never bothered to win titles, defend titles, fight actually rated opponents whose rating effect their title shots, elims, mando, unis, etc, you have make believe ratings you can argue with and make believe titles you can award through logical fallacies and popularity contesting.

Did a man reign as the evident best for a while without bothering to gather the titles his idol's held to prove beyond any doubt? Use resume, alternative ratings, and fantasy belts to make believe it's the bodies' greed that stopped them from becoming undisputed and elevate him with terms like defecto.

It's gotten pretty ... snake eating its own tail, nicest way to say it.

This! Let them fight 1000 times in a row... = 1000 times brutal destruction by Rocky. I can't imagine any other possibility.
