I'm gonna be a little more daring than most and say it takes Rock at least 9 to end it. I honestly think Joe's footwork and hand speed could carry him that long.
Gotta go with Joe by stoppage. This is prime Joe, right? When he was called Stone Hands or Stonehenge, right? Joe's also got an iron chin and has never been hurt. He slipped or was off-balance the few times he was knocked down (versus Mitchell, Salem, Hopkins, Jones, etc.). He has never been defeated only meeting the best SMWs and LHWs in the world. But, before he hurt his hands he used to punch through brick walls and punch meat at the slaughterhouse. He has amazing other worldly hand speed and KO'd something like 21 of the first 22 men that stepped in the ring with him. He would treat Mariciano similarly to the way Jones handled Ruiz except surely he would get the KO/TKO at some point. Clearly got to take Joe in this one. Joe could lose to Vitali and Wlad and maybe, maybe even Lennox because they are so much taller.
Good comment. Most people seem to be saying Marciano by brutal KO but thats just a gut reaction. Calzaghe could speedily outbox Rocky all night and never tire. Mind you Calzaghe loves to stand and trade in the 12th. Maybe not the best idea with this guy....
Joe is gonna beat Vlad, and right after he leaves the ring he is going to clue Obama in on how to save the US economy. After that he's going to raise Mother Teresa from the dead, announce his retirement, and ascend into the heavens with her. That's the word on the street anyway:yep
What is the point of this thread, other than to find another way to hate Calzaghe. It is rather pathetic in truth, why does JC bring out the insecurity in so many people?. Calzaghe is a SMW, he is less effective at LHW and would be bloated and slower at CW, to put him in with proven HW fighters is idiotic. He may win a couple of round a early with his speed but eventually he gets broken down and taken out. But the point of this is to get people to say he can win to mock them and Calzaghe, pathetic.
This is preposterous, my return back here since Christmas Eve, and i see such an asburd thread. As this is a fantasy match, surely we're talking prime Calzaghe? therefore we have to count his explosive power from his early years, this with his iron chin, typical British never say never heart, obscene blistering pace, and better skills, how anyone can say Marciano is beyond me, I mean Rockys unlikely to be knocked out, but Calzaghe may go Manfredo style on him, and Rockys going to be busted up and dazed while the ref steps in. Neither lost... but, clearly, Calzaghe is the more talented fighter, and has a hell of a lot more in his draw than Rocky did.
lb for lb Joe Destroys the Klits, a far better fighter, and i believe, if Jue did move up to HW, and maintained most of his speed and stanima, he would win. Osama hasn't even taken over yet, maybe Calzaghe would have more knowledge on saving an economy? we will never know, so hardly far fetched. The latter is heading into the realms of fantasy however.
I'm assuming that by: "Calzaghe's explosive power from his early days" what you actually mean is: "slapping bums around the Cardiff Ice Ring while labouring to a points decision over Rick Thornberry"
or maybe dropping Eubank twice who had a legendary jaw and went toe to toe against one of the most devastating punchers ever in Benn? Think Mcfly! Think!
Nigel Benn really has no place in a debate about the "devastaiting punching power" of Joe Calzaghe. I'm also amused by how you use a POINTS VICTORY over an old Eubank as proof of Calzaghe's "devastaiting punching power". Not thought that one through properly have ya?
