Frazier. Faster and more compact. He'd outland Marciano pretty significantly I think.

True, but in a battle like this I think it's reasonable taking the guy who has the edges in stamina, two-fisted power, and durability. The second fight Frazier did better in, but it was still a very tough fight, which showed Bonavena was an unpleasant style for Frazier. Most importantly, Frazier's pace and output slid off, and against Marciano that would be his undoing (Unless Frazier's body shots break down Marciano to begin with, which is probably his best bet to win).

He might have fought a few tomatos early, but Roland LaStarza, Tiger Ted Lowry and Ezzard Charles weren't tomatoes.

Marciano had better stamina, better defense, better power, better chin, better speed.

I wish some of you guys would tell me what edge you think Frazier would have. He's totally overmatched in my view. Size does not matter here. Joe Louis was much bigger than Marciano and Marciano destroyed him. And no, Louis was not shot. Past his prime, yes, but he was on an 8-fight winning streak against top contenders.

i would disagree with some of these

stamina maybe but frazier had no trouble with a HIGH pace well past his prime for 15 rounds in manilla. i'd say near equal

defense is equal for me, frazier edges possibly. marciano had solid defense and is becoming appreciated over time but at his best, even ali's lightening fast hands without full committment couldn't find him reliably. much like duran, frazier rolled with so many punches that the ones that landed, lost their steam.

    power is marcianos

    chin is marcianos

    speed shows no clear advantage

as a matter of styles, if you were his size or smaller and came at him, frazier ate you up. if you could move brilliantly or push him back, you could win. for me, marciano fits into neither category

I don't know about that. Marciano has shown the ability to throw nearly 100 power punches in round 15. I think Marciano can match frazier's workrate plus more..esp since frazier was not that strong and Marciano was.

:thinki think this is worth debating. other than foreman, who was stronger than frazier? and marciano's size and the size of those in his era should be taken into account. he looked strong and was strong but the best heavies he fought weren't that big

Jerry Quarry. Frazier also embarrased himself on the celebrity's fitness challenge in the strength test.

Don't get me wrong..Frazier had a lot of functional strength in the ring, and was clearly faster than Marciano, but I do think Rocky was the stronger man. In a battle between 2 head on sluggers on the inside, strength will take its toll

it will but i think frazier threw more shots and placed them better. at his peak marciano was no longer crude but he didn't have frazier's precision

It was Quarry who was bullied around the ring in both of their fights though.

I also remember Marciano not really being able to push around Rex Layne. That contest came down to defense and punching power.

Bigger, more accurate, clearly faster from what I can see, arguably has the edge on defense, stamina is about even.

Have you ever seen this fight?? It as panned almost universally because of the easy time Frazier had. Bonavena was still in his prime at this point and Frazier backed him into the ropes all night long and beat the hell out of him. It was an interesting albeit one sided fight fight which proved that in their first fight while both raw Bonavena had given Frazier a tough time but Frazier developed well beyond Bonavena (who I am a HUGE fan of) and by the rematch proved he was head and shoulders above one of my favorite all time fighters.

I think Frazier would have been too much for Marciano. Someone asked me too elaborate so I will. I think Frazier Marciano is a fascinating matchup and truly one of the great all time fantasy action fights. But Marciano was easy to hit. People saying he wasnt are nuts, it was his claim to fame. My dad, who grew up in that era and who idolized Marciano did so because of Marcianos dogged determination and never say die attitude even when getting torn to shreds, which he did, and often. Frazier, a prime Frazier, was naturally bigger, harder hitting (IMO), and had every bit the stamina and conditioning Marciano did (if not more, it was his claim to fame in his prime). It would be a very good, damaging right handed puncher, against a great left handed puncher who was bigger and faced a better class of opponent who were naturally bigger and in their prime and excelled. Frazier's boogaboos were guys who were a lot bigger, stronger, and harder hitting. Marciano is none of those things to Frazier.
