Also, as you know, we're looking at a pure swarmer vs, a pure boxer, so that has to be considered also.

    Totally.

Marciano has the ideal style to negate what Holmes has got.

Prime Holmes is a top-10 heavyweight and vastly underrated--his left jab is among the best in boxing history! I think Larry dispatches Marciano with relative ease--either a UD or TKO in the late rounds. Holmes was an exceptional technical fighter and he would use his reach advantage and lateral movement to slice up the Rock throughout the fight.

There is no ease when one all time great fighter is beating another all time great fighter in their respective primes.

Marciano learned from the jab. In his championship fights good jabbers could not establish the jab.

Against brawling fighters, albeit ones Larry still brutalised, even his jab was less effective.

Marciano was a better fighter than a 1978 version of Ken Norton who came close to beating prime Larry.

    food for thought.

Holmes fought Norton with a torn left biceps muscle it's well documented. Norton was a totally different fighter to Marciano, with a fine jab of his own which had negated the effectiveness of the other best jabber of that era Muhammad Ali.
    Norton's reach was 80inches ,12 inches longer than Marciano's.
Norton, whilst at the end of his prime,Norton had beaten the number 2 contender Young just 7 months previously,he wasn't some relic.

This is a credit to how good Larry was because he threw his jab in that fight as well as he ever did in his life despite this. So you Scratch that point off. Ken still got Larrys best.

He was bigger but did absolutely nothing better at the range anyone would need to be to beat Larry. Rocky had more stamina, more power in both hands and a much much better chin,

And that’s why he fought at longer distance against Larry than Rocky would have. Ken couldn’t out jab Larry early in the fight because he fought Larry at the wrong distance. It took him far too long to work that out. later ken closed the distance, negating the reach and his own jab, and the fight became much closer.

I credit Norton for beating an actual contender it proves, like Joe Louis when he was beating contenders in his comeback, that Ken was also still relevant at that time.

You think Lee Savold was comparable to Jimmy Young at the time they respectively fought? Despite the fact that one fight later Savold had his licence withdrawn for his own safety and was retired .
So having a torn biceps muscle in the arm that carries your main weapon, your left jab is discounted by you because he gritted his teeth and fought through the pain .It had no impact on his performance ? Holmes himself disagrees, but you would know best of course.

ps Apart from a washed up Savold which "contenders," did Louis beat in his comeback?

Re: the biceps injury, you said that this was well documented. I've seen it mentioned a lot in various threads, but nobody ever cited anything.

Do we have any clear sources similar to what we have for Terrell's eye injury vs Ali (for example, pictures of Terrell in the hospital)? Or is just Holmes telling reporters his biceps were torn?

Omg you’re obsessed w old Louis. He beat Bivins who would later regain a ranking (so he wasn’t completely washed up and still beating contenders), Brion x2, and Savold…that’s four decent wins in a comeback within what a year? I know you’ll have some lame excuse for each fighter. Should we go over Holmes title defenses against guys with ten fights? How many under 20 wins guys did he face? Think it was over 6 but haven’t counted in awhile. Larry’s overrated and had two good wins to his name. Norton and Tim. And a few sprinkling of ok guys like Young and Mercer and Cooney. Complete nostalgia and revisionist history that’s hyping this guy up now. He was not thought of as much for decades. Only lately has he been some unstoppable force. Ken did nothing after the Holmes fight should we use your logic and say he was a shot fighter?

There are Doctors reports cited in one of George Kimball's books ,Larry had painkilling injections in the arm ,and an interview with Holmes.

Actually I never mentioned Louis until Choky brought him into the conversation,I just responded to your tag partner who thought he saw an opportunity to score a cheap point but, as you usually are ,he was mistaken. Now how about you answer my question on my Marciano v other champs thread?

As to the ability of Lary Holmes, Eddie Futch, ever heard of him? Makes a fight between Holmes and Ali 50/50.
I really don't care if you want to dog me and make negative comments about my threads, let's face it ,you are incapable of making an interesting one of your own, and your posts just consist of hero worship and immature attack dog snipes. So you fill your boots with this old man's blessing, all you are doing is demonstrating how petty ,pathetic and childishly spiteful you are So Go To It It's All Good ! LOL
