rocky marciano vs larry holmes

    well, i have no doubt in my mind, if you put rocky in the place of shavers,norton or weaver the result = holmes ko. rocky had the stamina, the style( pressure) and the right hand( weak point of holmes) to beat holmes by tko in the later rounds.
    marciano had the perfect style to beat holmes, larry did not have the speed, the stamina or the chin of ali.

    Holmes was a good fighter...but Marciano in his prime was a force of nature....chin...conditioning...STAMINA...pressure....high work rate....heart...kill or be killed attitude...and of course...the"Suzie Q"......if Snipes could land his right hand on Holmes...

    It's easily conceivable (for me, at least) that Holmes has the boxing ability, the toughness, and the smarts to win this one. Holmes picked himself up after a nasty knockdown and continued his domination in the Shavers fight, so even if Rocky, behind on points (as he almost certainly would be), manages to score a knockdown, chances are Holmes gets up and picks up where he left off...

    I see it either way. Rocky can't be discounted, but Holmes would be a big hill to climb for Marciano.

    larry holmes would take it easyily and i think he would hurt rocky so much that hed get a tko later on in the fight

    Holmes had a superior chin. It took alltime powerbroker Shavers to KD him, not a light heavy or ancient, worn out guy in his next to last fight. And Holmes recuperated in an instant. Snipes landed a monster right from outside (farther out than 67"), thrown by a prime, athletic, modern sized heavy. Holmes got up to stop him.

    Holmes conditioning and stamina in his prime were as good as any heavy, even St. Rock. As commented above, his recuperative abilities were amazing.

    No one, Marciano included, had the "kill or be killed" attitude as much as Holmes. He fought hurt as well as any fighter I can remember in the heavy ranks.

    The ref mercifully stops this one with Marciano cut to ribbons and knocked down.

    holmes was ko against shavers, but shavers was just a hard puncher, he did not have no stamina and he was not a good finisher. holmes fought To life or death against a past prime norton.marciano had more hitting power and much more stamina. rocky would stop him in the later rounds

    larry holmes never did beat a prime legend.
    he fought wars against spoon, past prime norton,past prime shavers or weaver.
    berbick,snipes, and smith gave him a fight.

    And the prime legends that Marciano beat would be... butterball light heavy Cockell?

    The guys Holmes in his prime fought were legit heavies, not retreads or former light heavies. I would also pick the Spoon that Holmes fought to beat Marciano.

    I don't expect to wake anyone from the delusional dream of the Marciano Godhead status. The guy fought in a terribly weak era. Guys like a washed-up Charles, journeyman Walcott and old man Moore wouldn't even crack the top ten today... yes, even today.

    i never said that marciano did beat a prime legend, but the walcoot or charles who faced marciano were better than shavers,past prime norton,weaver,smith,berbick.. by far

    I think Larry would be ahead early on through his skills, but yes, the tenacity and unrelenting punching attack of Rocky takes it's toll and earns a late TKO through an accumulation of punishment.

    o yes, just like he did against a past prime norton... who had more stamina than rocky, who was harder puncher than rocky . who had more heart than rocky and who had better chin than rocky...
