Holmes was by far the more complete Fighter. He also was much bigger and possessed possibly the best jab in the history of the division, and it was the punch that Marciano would be walking into.

Marciano's 188lbs from the Charles fight frame walks forward, swinging and missing against the Larry Holmes from the Ali fight and gets met with jabs, fast hard spear like jabs, to his face repeatedly until it cuts. Whether this be over several rounds or not, it would happen.

Rocky would be swinging wide with his Suzie Qs and Gazzele Hooks and missing due to not being in range and/or Holmes defence. He'd be countered with Straight rights or nice tight uppercuts. Either way he'd be getting hit flush by someone who can punch as hard as anyone he fought.

Marciano would try and crowd Holmes but would be met with that thunderbolt of a jab and stiff arms from both left and right hands. He'd also clinch and spin Marciano to get out of Corners.

Marciano could conceivably catch Holmes with a huge punch (tho it isn't really likely) but it wouldn't be harder than Ernie Shavers's overhand right which Larry got up from or his uppercut with Larry took and stayed standing. He'd take Marciano's power

Before Al Weill even paid him any mind the club owner of the place in Newark hated Al Weill and wanted Marciano to lose before he gained any steam. So he matched him up with 8-0 Bobby Quinn when Marciano was a 2 fight novice, and after Marciano stopped Quinn he matched Marciano with 15-0 14KOs Eddie Ross. Because of that fight Al Weill took notice of Marciano and Marciano was finally being trained by Goldman and protected. Marciano was also being mismatched in his amateur career, fighting in amateur championships with like 3 amateur fights. Do your research, don't repeat old, false rhetoric

    This is really funny!
1.Marciano had 3 fights under his belt when he fought Quinn not 2.
2.Goldman was in Marciano's corner for the Ross fight.
3.Ross was a supermiddleweight whose last win was over a middleweight .
    4.Ross never beat a heavyweight.
5.Marciano was fighting pro while still registered as an amateur. This was before he made the New England Golden Gloves Team.
6.Marciano had a manager before Weill, Gene Gaggiano. He later had to go to court to get out of his contract with him. Gaggiano sued Marciano for breach of contract the day of the Ross fight.
7.Marciano first met Weill in NY inJune1948 and was invited to room at Ma Brown's boarding house, where Goldman lived, and also to be trained by Goldman at the CYO gym, he turned the offer down, saying he couldn't afford to live in NY.So Weill advised him to go home and train there.
When Rocky left he had $20 from Weill in his pocket.
8 .Rocky officially began his pro career in Providence 1948 ,the local promoter was Manny Almeida a close friend of Weill's ,Almeida was tied up with Raymond Patriaca, the New England mob boss.Rocky's first official fight was for Almeida onJuly 12th 1948. Weill arranged the fight.Rocky fought Harry Bilazarian an army buddy of Rex Layne's and his sometime sparring partner.Rocky had a local manager tape his hands and be the chief second, Colombo was the other second.Bilazarian was a light heavyweight, ten pounds lighter than Rocky
Marciano was getting $40 a fight.
9 . When Marciano officially signed with Weill he had the benefit of excellent sparring with Cesar Brion, Goldman's fighter.
10 When Marciano moved to NY he trained at the CYO .Goldman kept him away form Stillman's because Rocky was so clumsy.
    11..Marciano fought plenty of patsies
12.Amatuer Rocky ,he once deliberately kicked an opponent in the nuts because he was getting beat up!
    13. Marciano signed a contract with Weill after the Cardione fight in Washington.
14.Rex Layne said Joe Louis hit him harder than Marciano
Pat Richards, his manager, the lovely Blinky Palermo had to get him out of jail for that fight! There was a lot of talk saying Richards had no business being in the ring with Rocky ,how right they were!
Harold Mitchell who had not won any of his last eleven fights, and could not punch his way out of a paper bag! Marciano was then 32-0-0 Good match?
Tommy Digorgio he'd won 1 of his last 6 and was 9-9-0 Marciano was 19-0-0 Good match?
Eldridge Eatman won 1 of his last 8 fights Marciano was 16-0- 0 Good match?
Don Mogard had lost his last 7 fights. Marciano was 16-0-0 Good match?
Art Henri won 1 of his last 6 ,[ that was over a debutee who weighed 174lbs,] Marciano was 33-0-0 Good match?
Willis Applegate lost his last 5 was 11-14--2 ,Marciano was 34-0-0.Good match?

Oh and your quote about trying to get Rocky licked came from promoter Sam Silverman in Skehan's book on Rocky.

What's that line, something about Grandmothers and sucking eggs?lol
I think its you who needs to do some research, not me!

Your analysis of Marciano’s weaknesses is very inaccurate. You don’t know Marciano.

Though an intriguing and mostly on point list, George did forget that and the fact that Larry didn't have an effective left hook. His left hook was mostly just there, and almost never did anything besides maybe put a fighter off balance.

With a significantly better hook Larry would have been champ even longer. Weird to me is how, after Witherspoon exposed just how reliant Larry is with the jab (via neutralizing it), the latter never really seemed to try and bring up his other punches to compensate.

    1. Use the Reply button.
    2. It's fine, outside of me forgetting his appalling balance, what was wrong with it?
    He has 2 effective punches.
Against Louis's jab he was left more cut up than paper mache
His defence was walk forward, hands down with a few parries here and there.
He never had a back up plan and was an all-round slow fighter. He couldn't box very well and was never on the back foot.

Tell me what was wrong there.
Oh and it's noted you clearly do not like Holmes and are the most deluded individual on here about Marciano if you think he's more skilled than Lomachenko

    Did Rocky use a treadmill?

George, ignore him, he is a Walter Mitty who lives in a fantasy world.

We can all project a persona on here and this guy does it to escape the reality of everyday existence.
He has repeatedly been caught lying about visiting Deer Lake and even got booted for it as Perry. Christ, just read some of the tripe he comes out with.
Trust me, Houdini in real life will be nothing like he appears on here.

Think along the lines of " Rimmer " from red dwarf.
