I think Marciano would stop him in the mid to late rounds. Max was very easy to hit, but he was also very durable. The only problem is he'd go right at Marciano and go toe to toe with him and that would only fit into Rocky's hands due to his better technique, better defense, quicker hands, and arguably more power.

It'd be a fun fight, but I see Marciano becomming dominant towards the end.

If Baer turned up motivated, then sombody would get badly hurt.

I am glad this didn't happen in a way.

Baer by knockout. If we really are talking primes.

Baer is certainly capable of dropping Marciano, but if he does, I doubt he keeps him there.

Tough call, but maybe Max starts to get a little discouraged after Marciano's nonstop attack. Maybe I'm wrong. Max I think gets a little undersold sometimes.

Even in his "prime," Baer was actually not that good of an infighter. He was at his best from mid-range, where he could get room to wind up his big swings. Schmeling was able to adopt a Marciano-ish gameplan and outslug Baer for much of their fight, before gassing late and getting "caught" - and that isn't even Schmeling's preferred style of fighting. Marciano should be able to follow through where Schmeling fell short, and batter Baer down the stretch to score a late-round stoppage.

Dropping Marciano required a combination of one punch power with caginess and pinpoint accuracy. The bomb a retreating Max suddenly unloaded over the top to drop Comiskey with, and the counter shot out of the corner he nearly floored Galento with are examples of the kind which Moore suckered Marciano into. However, Rocky weathered this kind of power as well as anybody ever has, and he wouldn't stop coming.

I see aggression and work rate doing it for Rocky here though. Max's body would be a consistent target, and he probably loses confidence when Marciano gets up from or otherwise takes the best Baer can land. Like Moore, LaStarza and others, Max would discover Rocky to be a more difficult target than he sometimes appeared to be. I actually think there's a real chance this can go the distance. Maxie had 20 round stamina and a rapid reverse gear to retreat with when he opted to engage it. I think his crazed unpredictability can get him to the final bell in a brutally debilitating chess match. Marciano has a major advantage in hand speed here, although foot speed and mobility is clearly in Max's favor (as seen in the Carnera footage).

 I pretty much posted that because I don't like responding to Suzie's topics with anything serious.

Anyway, i'd agree. Marciano could take a down and I have doubts about his ability to deal with a heavyweight of Baer's size and power, but he'd be favored nonetheless.

See what Louis did to Baer. And Rocky whooped Joe Louis' ass.

I see Rocky winning either by late round stoppage or decision. If Baer had better boxing skills to match his physical attributes he 'd stand a bettr chance but he doesn't....or didn't. He's primarily a right handed bomber and that won't cut it against Marciano who was better defensively than he's given credit for. Why Max never developed a good jab to compliment his 80 inch reach is beyond me but he never did. It would've made him a more well rounded fighter not just a puncher. At any rate I think Rocky would give more then he gets here en route to a majority decision or late round stoppage.

I did this thread a while ago here in the classic section.... It is an awesome pairing.... BUT! I'll go with the smaller, but more dedicated Marciano to wear down Baer in a gruelling encounter and force the TKO stoppage from the ref / corner...... Baer is tuff and game early on, but his heart and soul begins to vanish after 6 rds.... Me thinks Marciano lowers the boom with a volley of hard punches somewhere around the 11th stanza..... Marciano wins....

Little doubt Marciano wins ... likely a wide decision ...

Baer had more power than Moore though.

I think this goes the distance. Now both had an iron chin, endless stamina and huge power. Which should make it for an awesome fight. Baer´s bigger and a bit stronger. Nevertheless, I like Marciano´s higher workrate and better defence to carry him to a decision. If we take a well motivated Baer at his best he probably drops Marciano once or twice and makes is a closer one than many expect but out of ten he lands the right punch perhaps once.
