Watch the KO of Walcott. The right was well setup and timed. Look at the Matthews knockout, he hits him with three straight left hooks, you couldn't do that if you had bad timing.
Marciano's body punching and general inside game were far better than Tyson's.

In some rounds of the Moore, Charles and Cockrell fights he would literally top out at 90-115 punches.

When did I say Mathis Jr knocked Tyson down? I said Mathis made Tyson look awkward because he didn't know how to deal with his swarming tactics and relied on his power to bail him out. It's no secret Tyson was not a very great inside fighter.

There is no historical record of Rocky being KO'd, ever, and I had Tyson not only KO him, I had Tyson knock him out early. Brutally. And you had no problem with this.

Anyone can suffer a flash knock down if they're off guard. Rocky usually threw wide, obvious, clubbing shots and wore guys down with sheer volume, but it's possible Tyson might be surprised by something since he's never had to deal with such a short opponent throwing weird unorthodox bombs ignoring the "rules" of boxing.

You didn't answer my question. Who hits harder between Ali and Frazier? I mean, Ali was able to not only score flash knock downs, he KOd Oscar Bonavena when Frazier couldn't in 2 different fights.

If Lewis just stood there off guard and took rocky's best shot to the jaw, sure, he might go down. In case you didn't know this, the shots Rahman and McCall dropped him with were blow he didn't see coming and that's usually how KO's happen in the first place. But Lewis would not take chances, he'd probably fight him the same way he did Tua and wouldn't leave his chin open.

I've seen the Walcott KO 10x. Rocky's timing usually wasn't that good. It took him 13 rounds to set that up.

His timing was not as good as Tyson's whether you think it was underrated or not. Joe Frazier even called Tyson a "sharp shooter" in an interview and praised his timing and accuracy and he forgot more about boxing than either of us combined.

I agree his inside game was better, which is why in my write up of the fight I said Rocky could trouble Tyson with that and his awkward ruggedness. Body punching? Tyson was one of the best body punchers in history, not just in HW boxing, boxing in general. I can't say the same for Rocky. He body mechanics were not as good, nor was he as accurate with his punch placement to the body. Rocky would wing shots and head hunt a lot too. In the Don Cokkel fight, he admitted he should've went to the body sooner instead of head hunting.

The Mathis Jr fight is irrelevant...........................Tyson fought half of ONE round in 54 months including a three plus year jail stint

Prime Tyson would not be surprised by a 185 pound guy who swings for the fences standing right in front of him, if old balding Man with a million miles on the clock make Marciano see double or as he described it "blacked out" Tyson put Marcinao down and out for the count with relative ease....................6'3 212 pounds skilled Michael Spinks who was undefeated , never been down and defused Holmes twice who was ten times fresher than Moore /Walcott tried to bring the fight to Tyson and went out in 91 seconds.

Rocky Marciano never ever had a similar result .

It seems like the 3 people who voted for Rocky in the actual poll are putting in a lot of work in this thread.

I don't think you know what timing means within the context of boxing. The amount of time he waited to throw the punch has no bearing on how good it bad his timing was. Max Schmeling spent four rounds setting Louis up for a right hand, does that mean that he has bad timing.

I believe the word Frazier used was 'marksman' which would be a complement to his accuracy - I agree that Tyson was the more accurate puncher.

If you watch any of Marciano's fights you'll see that going to the body was a staple. Him going buck wild with punches to the head when he thinks he has an opponent ready for the kill doesn't contradict that.

I've done a punch count on a couple of his fights and printed them on this forum. The film is plenty good enough to get an idea of his output. There were rounds, if I recall, where Rocky threw 25 punches. Overall it was nothing extraordinary, especially when you consider the depleted opposition he was facing.

Mike Tyson would have a punch count under 10 against Cockell.

The fact that Marciano had to throw the kitchen sink at Don is hardly the endorsement you think it is.

I'd have to get my old super8mm Marciano collection out of the attic and I would if I thought it would make the slightest difference to the Rockista's ,but it wouldn't,some of them still believe he ran 15 miles a day and hit the 300lbs bag for 30 rds after sparring, there is no reasoning with such unquestioning idolatry.
Words like"iron chin",and "defensively clever." are routinely bandied about by these fans. two old men dropped him neither of whom were atg heavyweight punchers, yet Rockista's will solemnly tell you Rocky had a better chin than Tyson, who withstood the shots of Ruddock,Smith ,and Bruno without going down .
Marciano was cut and marked up in all his major fights and several of his ones against middling opposition eg Schkor ,and Simmons, that is not the sign of a defensively clever fighter.
Marciano sometimes fell over from missing punches, that indicates bad balance, despite some claims to the contrary.
We have had posters tell us all Rocky had to do was land one Suzie Q flush and the fight was over,in nearly all cases this is complete nonsense,Marciano ,like Frazier usually broke his men down in sustained wars of attrition,he probably hit harder than Frazier and he had two handed power which Joe did not ,but he was neither as fast ,or as accurate a puncher as Frazier ,and both were someway behind Tyson in that respect.
Rocky Marciano, along with Dempsey and Langford ,were probably the three most dangerous men under 190lbs that ever stepped into a ring.
I think that should be enough, for any fan.
