I really don’t even want to debate this fight...

But, reach is not the issue for me. Rocky always got caught by jabs, so I do think Usyk would have some success landing it. However you feel about Rocky he was quite skilled out of the crouch using his own jab, to time his opponent then feinting and pumping with his to close the distance. Once he got inside, and I think he would. Then the issue does not become reach but rather can Usyk match him with the in fighting, which is where the majority of this fight will take place. My guess is no...at this stage anyway. But I do have hopes that Usyk will find success in this division during the upcoming years...but to me that is still a big question mark

I like Usyk I just still find it premature to place him in a hypothetical of this nature.

 

I’ve watched his fights yes. Not a great fighter by any means but a solid one. The Golata of his day I suppose.

 

He went 37-3-2 after Marciano. Durrell was a good win but the resume is filled with others. I don’t think any ATGreats but solid contenders. That’s not the record of a washed up man with tired legs. His legs were probably tired from the work rate and pressure Marciano put him through.

 

Durelle was ranked no 3 for 2 years atLHY and he nearly finished Moore in their 1st fight. Moore said his legs were gone before the Marciano fight why are you wilfully misinterpreting this?
Which solid contenders? Let's have some names please?

 

Except that this is a head to head discussion... And head to head Golota would destroy Layne.

It’s true that Usyk struggled when Nistor got inside. But he’s a southpaw and equally relentless to Marciano (that is true by the way, he doesn’t stop) and Usyk did beat him over 5.

He is also naturally bigger than Marciano and stopped A.J in the amateurs, so he could bang also.

Usyk’s footwork and foot speed as well as his jab would limit the amount of times Rocky would get close anyway.

 

If the Moore that fought Durrelle didn’t have to make 175 and instead fought Gassiev, he might well have been sparked in the first round.

 

I think we are all capable of checking boxingrec. He continues fighting the best of his division for years after. He beat the golden calf Nino earlier that year and his legs looked fine to me. Since when do we take fighters excuses as to why they lost seriously unless it’s a medically documented injury? If he wasn’t in shape or unprepared it’s on him. But knowing Moore’s reputation for talking I wouldn’t take that to seriously he looked fine the first three rounds until he got swarmed to death. Give credit where credit is due.

Boxing has moved on a lot since the slugging days of Marciano.

Usky would box rings around him and jab his head off in a modern ring.

The use of the feet is far superior these days.

A better fight would be Marciano Gassiev, now there are two guys with great hands but average feet
