The sheer volume of punches rocky throws would overwhelm Roy. At some point he would clip Roy with something and Rocky was a very good (if sloppy) finisher and didn't let guys off the hook. There is less than a 10% chance that Roy, even at his best, simply stays on his toes and boxes circles around Rocky without getting nailed by anything flush. Rocky threw everything but the kitchen sink at you and never got tired. It's a very unrealistic outcome. And Roy was not known for endurance or toughness.
This is a great point. RJJ rates highly H2H from MW to LHW for me. I just think a Marciano over 15 with 50's judging and refereeing is a step too far.
Who says it's gonna be 15 rounds and with 50's judging ?! It's gonna be 12 rounds with modern reffing
Even then, I don't favour Roy. And why would it be 12 rounds? It's at HW prime for prime. Why shouldn't Rock be afforded the favourable terms - he's a bonafide HW champ? Roy's got a grand total of 1 fight at the weight against John Ruiz.
Roy outboxes him - on this, I fully agree. I don't see how Roy survives the onslaught - I'm not convinced about his strength, punch resistance, backing up in straight lines and turning his head with eyes closed from punches against Rocky - you don't agree and that's fine. I bet if you and I were to describe how Roy might beat him, the play for play looks eerily similar.
Has Roy beaten anyone on ezzard Charles or Archie Moore or Walcott or even Laynes level at that weight? The answer is no. At LHW I don’t think he gets by Charles or Moore why would he get by Marciano? Roy’s top 20 as is Marciano to me but Roy’s top 20 for his LHW to MW accomplishments.
That's my point. The thing I thing we disagree on is whether Roy can do that for 12 rounds. I think he can, you don't and think Rocky probably catches him at some point
Think of a somewhat crude play out of Nunn vs Toney, except that Marciano doesn't have Toney's skill, but like James did, he starts timing Roy eventually and the workload and the power that Rocky brings catches up to Roy in a frightening manner. That's the way that I see it playing out if both are at their HW best and without vitamin assistance. Funnily enough, the faster LHW version may just be able to do the job better than a more stationary (the irony) HW version does in terms of pure 'outboxing'. It's weird - as I said, we likely see the way that Roy boxes around Rocky eerily similar - I just expect Rocky to find a way to catch him and when he does, I turn away knowing one of my boxing idols is going to get hurt if he's brave enough to try to stay up and meet the fire.
