Rocky Marciano vs Sam Langford

Knowing what a noble and respectful man Rocky was , its highly likely he would decline the fight.
There's nothing to gain from beating a little man like Langford into mulch.

Pitting this little guy in the ring with Rocky is sadism.

Hagler has more chance of winning but nobody is putting their house on Hagler.

 

Langford could win this.
One of the best inside fighters ever , superb head movement and counters .

It's a gruelling one cos it's Marciano but definitely could win it.

Intriguing pairing, not sure I have seen before, as you say not a real lot of Langford to appraise, but as in the case of Greb, the record, resume, and achievements, speak for themselves, so a very formidable adversary, and a nailed on ATG no lower than 4th imo, up against the undefeated, superby conditioned, never say die fighter, that was Marciano, assuming the fight is around 190, or both weigh the same, just to make it even, I wouldnt give too many fighters a chance against the Rock at this weight, also when comparing the gladiators looks wise, Rocky just seems that much more stronger, thick sturdy legs, very solid looking arms, almost everytime I see a photo of him, whether in a fight or at his camp training, I mean a still, not moving, his physique never fails to impress me, there is one in particular I think it's in the La Starza fight, he is throwing a left hook and he looks trained to the enth degree, the waist of a middleweight, with grim determination written across his taut face, as great as Langford was, I am going for Marciano to prevail, he didn't know how to lose, I remember reading somewhere that he went into every fight with the mental attitude that if he was beaten, it would be back to being a fat road digger, so I am not sure how, or when, or by what route, but I believe he would win, that's all he knew.

I gotta go with Rocky. Langford IMO is #2 all time p4p, but Rocky wins this.

This little guy knocked out 6'6 fighters, Harry Wills and George Godfrey.

He'd yeet Usyk into the sun.

 

Conditioning, conditioning, conditioning. Langford has never impressed me as being a fan of disciplined training, especially as he put on weight above the light-heavyweight limit. Rocky, on the other hand, was always in superb condition. I really don't see it as that competitive a fight.

As for the question I think Marciano takes it not enough footage to judge Langford but he never really impressed me while Marciano was a savage and great inside fighter. Feel like he would be stronger then Langford and be able to bully him and brutalize him but with Langford having some success in the early round, kinda like against Charles or Moore, before Marciano's pace gets to him.

 

I think Langford would be a particularly bad matchup for Rocky; fast hands, absurdly hard hitting, good chin, very good counter puncher, has late round power (though I doubt Rocky would make it there), his conditioning and toughness has been proven time and time again. Maybe not against someone with a workrate like Marciano’s but has Marciano dealt with someone with that level of power countering him while on his offensive rampage? It wouldn’t look pretty imo.

 

Langford won the HW title at 158 pounds and for me reached his HW peak at 165 during the Lang fight. He put on the weight as a choice because he was fighting superheavys Marciano didn't. Langford could knock out Marciano as a WW.

The idea that Langford had bad conditioning is a slanderous lie. Hes not Mike Tyson.

Langford beats Marciano by quick KO weighing 160 he beats him weighing 200. His weight doesn't matter for someone like Marciano he could pick his weight at random. It doesn't matter. Thats why Langford is P4P the best HW ever.

I would pick Bill Lang or Schreck to beat Rocky Marciano fairly easy.

 

How many times has Langford gone 20-25 rounds in his career though? Even when he was gaining weight in the mid 1910s he still went the distance at the top level against naturally bigger guys. It seems like he’s the one doing the work and chasing 90% of the time too which would wear someone out if their condition was that poor:

Not implying he was on the level of Rocky in that regard but I think you’re underrating how well conditioned Langford was.
