I'm not on Kovalevs Bandwagon. Not decapitating the 75yr old Hopkins and quitting vs Ward in their second fight downgrades his resume IMO. He just isn't the monster people have made him out to be. If he couldn't handle Ward, he wouldn't withstand Marcianos pressure. TKO13, in Suzy Q fashion.
Yes. I didn't say Krusher was incompetent, just not great. Marciano went 9 with C0ckell, I think it would go 13.
Kovalev has good, maybe excellent mastery of distance. He has a top shelf jab that he pasted Ward with mercilessly. We all know how hard he hits. In the second fight with Ward I felt that he was well ahead until the stoppage. He is a busy, accurate fighter. Marciano stops him.
Rocky had about 15lb on him. And that's only so little because he was shredded for his fights. I can't see this going well for Kovalev.
On paper, where fights are never decided Kovalev could do quite well. He would eventually be steamrollered though mainly because of one thing. If you're lacking in the heart department, it's not a good idea to step into the ring with Rocky Marciano.
Kovalev could do well early on but once Marciano started connecting ,especially to the body,I think the Russians enthusiasm for the fray would diminish. He is a good," on top," fighter a ring bully Ward exposed him as lacking in the downstairs department ,imo.Marciano had no such limitations
Rocky won the title at 184.5 .. Kovalev post weigh ins may have weighed more when entering the ring .. that aside, I see Rocky taking him out before ten ..
