Louis only has to be rate a 212lb banger to meet your argument. The 1951 version qualified on all counts.

No amount of discrediting Lee Savold will qualify. Fighters had more fights in those days so it's a bit lame and desperate to try to draw attention to stats. If a fighter is rated rated hes rated.

Louis was documented as having a world class knockout win the same year he met Rocky. You can't change that by pretending Savold was not a leading contender, because he was a leading contender.

It is becoming laughable how desperate you are to discredit this fact.

    It's a 50/50 for me.

Sonny's size and jab v Rocky's awkward style and superior mental toughness and heart.

    OK, 51/49 for Sonny.

    Prime Savold was kod by
    Elmer Ray in 2 rds
    Harry Bobo 2 rds
    Lem Franklin 2rds
Phil Brubaker 3rds, floored 6 times!
    Stopped earlier by
    Dave Maier1rd
    Larry Udell 4rds
You carry on as though Louis stopping him in7 rds was some kind of feat!
Savold wouldn't have gone 3 rounds with a prime Louis!
No way can you spin 40 losses and 10 by ko, on a fighters record as anything but terrible!

Well the votes are about done and the ESB tribe has spoken. Sonny by almost 2 votes to 1 across the board. Sonny by KO.

It would all depend on how durable Marciano proved to be. Marciano would almost certainly be dropped.

But Marciano would be the hardest puncher Liston faced as well. And he definitely could outwork Liston. Marciano was deceptively hard to hit with Jabs because he came in low.

To me, its up in the air because I don't know how Marciano would handle Liston's power. I wish Marciano would have fought say Bob Satterfield. He may not have been as big or hit as hard as Liston, but he was a dangerous hitter in his day. Seeing how Marciano would take Satterfield's power could have given us a gauge on how Marciano would have taken Liston's power. Assuming Satterfield landed cleanly.

So i'll say Liston by mid round KO or Marciano by late round KO after getting up off the canvas to win

But Savold had 142 fights!! He won 100 times and knocked out 70 men! You omit the fact how many times the guy won which seems misleading again.

Savold was #1 contender. He beat good men like Harry Bobo, Lem Franklin, Lou Nova, Tony Musto, joe Baksi and Gus Dorazio. Lee was rated in the 1930s, 40s and early 1950s.

Marciano hit harder than Cleveland Williams? I think that's debatable.
Marciano said he couldn't avoid an old Louis' jabs he just had to take them, judging from his morning after photo he took quite a few in the less than 8rds the fight lasted!

These photos should disprove the canard that Marciano was hard to hit. Walcott said he wasn't difficult to catch but hard to hit with a big shot.

That's exactly what common opponents said. Marciano hit harder than Williams. I have an interview to prove it.

What they said was Marciano hit them harder.
Moore and Cockell said others hit them harder than Marciano did.
Here is the tale of the tape of a 21 years old Louis.

I corrected that Mr Dishonest, his average weight in title fights was 203lbs.

Liston's average weight in title fights was 215lbs , 12 lbs heavier.
Liston was just a half inch shorter than Louis make a big deal out of it!

"Two years after that heart breaking loss Simmons fought another murderous puncher, Cleveland Williams, and lost a close decision. When asked recently who hit harder, he proclaimed without hesitation that Marciano did."

Hit him harder.Marciano was in danger of being tko'd by Simmons, after their fight his camp took him on as a sparring partner. Simmons was stopped on his feet by 27 years old Rocky.Williams was a 204lbs 20 year old when he fought Simmons.
