Also, the 20 year old Williams actually decked Simmons for an 8 count, which the prime Marciano was unable to do.
No that is a miscalculation Joe Louis average title weight is proven to be 207. You add the lowest with the highest and divide it by two. You will find it is a mere 7lb less than Sonnys average. It is interesting that Louis and the shorter Listons personal highest weight in a title fight was also the same. 218.
Might be worth noting that Simmons lost 9 fights in a row between being stopped by Rocky and lasting the distance with Williams.
That's not how you calculate an average. You have to add up all of his weights and divide that figure by the number of fights. I'm not about to do that, but 203 sounds about right. The method you've used is, of course, skewed by the fact that when he was dragged off the golf course to face Ezzard Charles he was considerably heavier than he ever was while defending his title.
No you don't you take the weights and divide them by the number of fights! I used just the prime numbers and disregarded the fractions.203lbs was Joe's average weight ,12 lbs lighter than Sonny's!

If I wanted to be deceitful like yourself ,I would just have used Louis' weights when he was defending his title and not those when he was challenging Charles and Marciano when he was obviously over the weight of his prime years!

I re watched Liston v Whitehurst 2 recently. I think prime Marciano probably beats THAT Liston. Liston was caught a couple of times with overhand right and knocked off balance once, against a smallish boxer. He also lost effectiveness on the rare occasions Whitehurst crowded inside his reach. Liston probably improved after that fight but then again he was apparently rocked by Howard King in 1961 too.
What are you talking about son? Mcvey was telling everyone on here that Louis average title weight was 196lb WHEN HE NEVER WAS THAT LOW IN A TITLE MATCH. Joe Louis was usually above 200lb for the title. Before the army, aged 27 at his absolute peak one of his best ever wins Joe was 207. I wonder how much Sonny weighed at age 27? We can guess its but a kippers eyelash away from 207. Now I'd say the average title weight of Joe Louis must be somewhere between 197lb and 218lb. It sure ain't 197lb is it?
Yes, I agree. Liston did get better and he did get bigger but the Whitehurst film is still very revealing. As you say these guys all found Sonnys chin and they were often no heavier and certainly nowhere near as good as Marciano. It dosnt guarantee anything of course but I don't think it outrageous to consider Marciano would have significant success against Sonny Liston.
I have no opinion about the actual average title weight of either man. But I do know that dividing the sums of their highest and lowest weights by two is a fundamentally flawed and therefore highly unreliable means of calculating any such figures.
