Rocky Marciano vs. Sonny Liston

It is clear the two are so similar in size that it is relevant that Marciano can beat world class men the size of Liston because he proved it. This might not prove to be enough to beat actual Liston himself, it does prove however that that sized world class man in itself is no obstacle to Rocky. He ticked that box.

 

I just eyeballed his boxrec quickly. Considering that roughly two thirds of Louis' title fights took place at below 203lbs, and only a handful (of his last title fights) took place above 207, I'd feel comfortable calling his average fighting weight somewhere around 203lbs.

The majority of Liston's fights were at 212 or above.

It seems so. I always thought it was the point in the middle of the whole range. The number, whether it appears on the list or not.
It seems there isn't a term for that ??
Must there must be. For example, if the numbers were 200, 201, 206, 208, 208, 209, 210 .... what's the term for what 205 would be ?

Ok so let's agree on 203. It won't change the fact that Louis was 207lb at age 27 and that this has to be similar to what Sonny would be in his prime too.

To be honest I have never known such an extraordinary fuss over people wanting the shorter man to be bigger on any other matter.

Its quite certain that Liston is considerably the bigger man or don't you think that 2 inches bigger in the chest an inch and a quarter in the forearm,2 inches in the biceps,3 and 3/4in the fist 3 and 3/4 in the thigh and 8 inches in reach count? You really are a piece of work!

The shorter man, all 1/2" of shorter,you've mentioned Louis is taller 3 times now, yes by half an inch yet you want to dismiss Liston being palpably bigger.

But how big was the man who broke that jaw? How much harder would it be to carry on against a man his own size? Was that man who broke Listons jaw as big or as strong as Marciano? I know this is an early fight, a learning fight that can be excused. However it still remains that Sonny had difficulty, albeit at an early stage, with a smaller man than Rocky.

How good was that man who broke Sonnys nose?

Every fighter who ever lived got a nose bleed or Broken nose at some point. It is not unusual to carry on either. Children carry on with broken noses. It's not really that much of a feat.

 

That's the midrange. It's not much use for anything because it effectively ignores all of the data in the set apart from the highest and lowest values.

Does anyone know how genuine these things are anyway? I never saw a weigh in where each guy got his ankles measured. Although I am sure mcvey might volunteer to do this in order to uphold the importance of this process at all future events.

That's 7 of Marciano's opponents! Did Marciano have difficulty with 177 lbs[3lbs lighter than Marshall ,]Ted Lowry? Because the reports said he nearly dropped Rocky and many think he was robbed!

You keep saying Liston got his jaw broke like it's some badge of honour that he went into the fight disadvantaged but who broke that jaw?

Sonny was 202 and Marshall 179 for one of their fights. He always had a substantial weight advantage against Marshall
