In reality, Liston would destroy Marciano.

First off, Marciano was only 5'11, 188lbs and had a 67 inch reach. Liston, only an inch taller at 6''0, BUT, was at 220lbs and had an 84 inch reach. Liston was a Boxer-Puncher and used his jab to set his opponents up whilst Marciano was a Swarmer who went for the KO. Liston, was not only a Boxer-Puncher, but also a Slugger, he slugged it out in the Patterson fights and a bit in the Williams fight. He could fight both as a Boxer-Puncher and a Slugger.

Marciano needs to get inside to win, but that's the problem. Liston has the STRONGEST jab of all time, the greatest jab, he'd keep Marciano away whilst throwing Right-Hands, Left-Hooks, etc. You see, if a fighter did get inside, Liston would pound them with his power-shots.

Liston's power is superior to Rocky's, his physical size, skills, etc. The only disadvantage he has is Stamina, Rocky had more stamina. But I honestly don't see him getting past Liston in the early rounds. If he does it wouldn't matter. Liston also had great stamina.

Rounds 1-2, I can see Marciano firing bombs, but failing to land them and get inside. Liston would use his jab to keep Rocky away, causing a cut above his eye.

Rounds 2-4, Marciano is still fighting, but Liston scores a knockdown, Marciano gets up and carries on, Liston switches styles and fights Marciano at his own game, using his Slugger style, he pounds Marciano with his superior strength.

Round 5, Marciano is losing on scorecards and his physical disadvantage is proving too much, Rocky has heart, but Liston did too, Liston pounds him and pushes him to the ropes, pounding at him, but Rocky is saved by the bell.

Round 6, Liston uses his jab more, and catches Rocky with a Right-Hand, he gets Rocky to the ropes and pounds him, Lefts, Right, Crosses, etc. Marciano has resistance but is unable to stop Liston, whilst Marciano is at the ropes, Liston pounds with everything he has, Marciano can't take anymore, and he collapses. Losing the count.

Liston's physical advantage, heart and style will prove too much for Rocky.

    Liston by KO in 6.

    Liston destruction.

He beats Rocky at range and in close.

Rocky is a better boxer but not by a huge margin and he's giving away 30 pounds here.

Try and picture Ricky Hatton against Gennady Golovkin.

really hard to say how either man would fare with a puncher that each was. Liston never fought a puncher in the league of Marciano (please dont say Big Cat) and Liston was hurt and dropped by fighters sub 200. The best punchers Marciano faced were Walcott,Charles,Moore but they were also accurate pin point punchers. I would say Patterson was the most accurate puncher Liston faced but he really did not land anything of significance of Sonny.

Could Sonny go out like he did against Floyd and take Rocky out the same way or would he find himself in war, getting hit with power punches that he never felt the likes of and an awkward relentless punchers with heart

Marciano was deceptive and awkward and Liston had the reach, could Marciano get inside like Leotis did and KO Sonny ?

These are all unanswered questions. IMO I think heart would factor in here and Rocky is favored in that department.

I see many try to make this fight a Foreman vs Frazier II but in fact it is a different fight with different men, there are similarity's but different styles, different men and also I am assuming both Marciano and Sonny would be prime.

Liston has no where near the p4p victories that Rocky has.

That's not the point. You said Rocky was a better boxer than Liston. You're just wrong.

Liston had a 16 inch reach advantage. Ricky's not getting inside. You can't generalize from the Martin fight because Liston was over a decade, past his prime.

That is the point. Rocky proved more effective against those his own size than Liston did.

He is superior as a p4p fighter, but not by a huge amount.

Yes. They are both boxers, I feel Marciano is better.

The problem here is Liston is bigger which is why I think he destroys Rocky. If Liston wasn't bigger I wouldn't favour him.

This is my favorite fantasy fight and my two favorite fighters.
I give a slight edge to Marciano, due to will-to-win and determination.
I would not bet money on this fight.

I think Marciano would finish the fight on his fight but be stopped, bloody and hurt.
37 year old Joe Louis with only 40% use of his right hand butchers Marcianos face with his jab and Listons jab was heavier with a longer reach.
Its not Rockys fault but his opposition just weren't very big and some were part their best too
