Also wasn't Marshall simply a really late sub in one of the fights?

What you have to ask yourself is why does Box rec and CBZ record the knockdowns of Marshall but not one of Liston? Anderson does not feature anywhere in Liston's cv on either site and he said it was not a knockdown anyway..The only other people claiming a knockdown are Marshall himself and Tex Maule who wasn't there and who states the 1rd ko of Liston by Ali was absolutely genuine. So you can't cherry pick accept one you accept one opinion, you accept both opinions. Liston may have gone down from a push or been of balance and momentarily slipped to the canvas , but no reliable publication has ever contended that Marshalll dropped him with a punch,[ and I 've been buying the Ring & B I since 1960 ,] and that is good enough for me!
Absurd statements such as "you cant prove it didn't happen", belong in the garbage.
The onus is on those claiming it happened to produce proof of it and they categorically and emphatically have not.

Yes he was, good point! Liston dominated Marshall in the 2nd fight dropping him multiple times before koing him and Marshall did not win a round in the 3rd fight running all night concentrating on just surviving. Bottom line Marshall beat a novice Liston who broke his jaw in the 3rd round,Sonny said at the time he was laughing at Marshall getting up off the floor from a knockdown and barking like a dog.Choklab rejects this but is happy to say Marshall knocked Liston down = AGENDA! Despite this handicap ,Liston finished the 8 rds and lost a split decision, that is the extent of Marshall's "victory" over Liston.

above This we must all ask ourselves where Box rec and CBZ got that information in the first place. If it came only from Marshall why is that accepted? It's only part of what he said. It does not include the part where he said he first knocked down Sonny, and to my knowledge there was no outcry that Marshall was a bald faced liar.

but unlike the second fight, there is a contemporary report for that fight! the only report of the fight says THERE WAS NO KNOCKDOWN. no knockdown, no barking, no laughing. That's three things that never made the report. A knockdown is note worthy.

That report does say Marshall was awkward, tricky and was stronger over the last three rounds and that Sonny had a suspected broken jaw.

I think this is a bad match up for Rocky. Because of styles, I'm picking Liston.
