    Liston wasn't really slow. A bit flat footed, but not really slow. Tex Cobb was slow.

    I think Liston wins this excellent battle.

    I think he has better stamina, better leverage on his punches, rides shots better, is proven against a higher calibre of opposition and has better heart.

    Marciano took punches flush ,old Louis' jab couldn't miss him . He has no edge on Liston in taking punches .Sonny would back pedal to avoid incoming Marciano didn't.Liston was fighting younger men ,Marciano older ones. Liston fought to a close decision loss with a broken jaw against Marshall ,and with a broken nose to ko Williams who would have creamed C*ckell,Lastarza,old Louis,Layne . Did Duran lack heart? Its time this B.S. was put to sleep.Liston has a great jab ,Marciano's is non-existant, Liston more than matches him for power.Liston has better fundamentals,defence and is 27lbs heavier two and a half inches taller and has a sixteen inches reach advantage.Marciano was cut in all his major fights and in danger of being tko'd in two of them because of it.
    Left Jab=Liston
    Left Hook =Liston
    Uppercut =50/50
    Right cross = Marciano by a shade
    Chin =Liston

    I never said Liston lacks heart.

    Of course Williams beats these men you listed.

    I expect Liston has more power.

    Liston is bigger and taller than Roman Gonzalez but he isn't a better fighter than him.

    Liston doesn't have as good a resume as Rocky. He beats him because he's bigger as you've just helped me show.

    Of course he lacks heart, he wouldn't have quit against Ali if he didn't. Liston could be knocked out could, Rocky had the power to put him to sleep. Marciano wouldn't stay down so easily like Patterson did, if he survives the opening round he beats Liston up imo.

    chin liston? it must be a joke... marciano never ever got knocked out clean by a nobody(yes leotis martin was a nobody, 199pounds and not even a top puncher), you can tell me..." marciano got knocked down by archie moore and walcott" still they did hit harder than martin and were way better fighters overall, and a knock down is not a knock out i think that ali got knocked down more times than liston in his career and still ali had better chin than him.
    you can tell me too " liston was old" ( crazy and laughable people will say even that he was close to 60 ), no excuse, foreman was retired of boxing during 10years ,in the 90s was older and more out of shape than liston and still he took bombs from real big powerful men.
    the chin of liston never did convince me, it was a little suspected.
    WHEN I THINK THAT SOME PEOPLE HERE HAVE PICKED THIS LISTON OVER 69 JOE FRAZIER... PLEASE. ...

    other than the overrated Cleveland Big Cat Williams, Sonny was never really in a battle that he was tested. Early in his career he lost to Marty Marshal who was under 180lbs & Marshal was already KO'd 2X by Embrell Davis (who Archie Moore KO'd) but Liston was young) late in his career he was KO'd by Leotis Martin...in his prime he had an impressive career but when tested he quit & tanked against Ali. I like Liston but hard to see him overcoming the bully syndrome and hard to see him standing up to someone that had no quit in him. I seen it with Evander vs Tyson 2X and I never expected Tyson to fold. Marciano had a stronger character, will to win and refusal to quit & I favor him after a few anxious moments. Marciano by KO

    Liston jab for me wouldn't be a huge factor because he lunged with it mostly , i think Marciano gets by it . I tthink this is a ugly inside figyt won by the stronger guy . I just think Liston is to strong and eventually drops Marciano. You need a little finesse of hand and foot giving up so much size , i dont believe Marciano would grind Liston down .

    Liston didn't have much of an inside game which is where he would have to be in order to beat Marciano. Liston was a known quitter which brings him down even more because Marciano was relentless. It's like water colliding into a wall that is ready to break at any time.

    If it's a battle of attrition Marciano wins going away. He has the proven heart and determination of an ATG. In fact this is the main reason Liston is typically not rated as an ATG. He gave away sitting on his stool the greatest prize in all of sport.....the worlds hwt boxing championship.

    If it's a question of size, reach, strength and power Liston wins probably early.

    Rocky however with his deep crouch was no easy target. Liston was also as predictable a hwt champion as there ever was.

    I don't see an easy night for either fighter. I can't see Marciano taking out Liston early nor can I envision Liston bombing out a proven entity like Marciano. Sonny would have a very difficult time keeping Rocky off of him as he was no side stepping boxer.

    Rocky is cut and hurt but keeps coming. In the end a fatigued Liston is overwhelmed for a decision win by Marciano.

    If Liston has such great heart then why did he quit on his stool against Ali? A broken jaw hurts a hell of a lot more than an injured shoulder. Also, where did you find that Liston had a broken nose? Boxrec says he had a bloodied nose.

    Marciano has a better chin too, Marciano wouldn't have been knocked out by the right hand that Ali landed on Liston.
