What do you think? Could Robinson ever beat Marciano? Let's say they fought 10 times. Could SRR win at least one?
If you're serious I'll be serious .. no. Image Ray fighting an infinitely stronger, better conditioned, harder punching LaMotta and you'll have a starting point ..
As great as SRR was, there was this innate common sense that the fighters of his time had that kept them from straying too far out of their weight division boundaries. Exactly as he grant said, Marciano was so much bigger, stronger, harder hitting and more dangerous than Jake LaMotta, who was, up till Fullmer, the strongest fighter that Ray had fought, that common sese alone indicated that it would be a very unwise thing to even consider fighting Marciano. It had nothing to do with a lack of cojones on Ray's part, just that it wouldn't have made any sense...it would have been foolhardy, like a leopard daring to fight a lion.
How could a dead man hope to win 1 out of the next nine bouts ? If an Artie Levine had SRR almost kod twice in their bout in 1946 once when Robinson was on the floor for about 16-17 seconds, well you get the drift ...
Hmm, funny how the greatest fighter in the history of the game can't give away weight, and power to Marciano, but Marciano CAN give away height, reach, weight, strength, power, and still beat guys like Holmes, Ali, Liston, blah, blah, blah. LMFAO.
The whole idea of being a swarmer, it to overcome an opponents advantages in height, reach, strength, and handspeed. If you are a boxer, you probably don't want to fight a swarmer, who has significant physical advantages over you!
There certainly is, but I comprehend that the overwhelming majority of Marciano fans are Murican half wits.
Really? Tell that to Ali, and Foreman who are 2 - 1, and 2 - 0 against the swarming Frazier, or how about the swarming Roberto Duran who is 1 - 4 against the other fab 3. And these were 2 very very good swarmers. Or are we only allowed boxers who can't punch too hard?
