He could have been throwing a lot of fights then. He got work.

He threw 24 out of 28 fights? You're presuming a lot more than I am.

I'm not going to chastise Marciano for one bad performance. Everyone has an off night, especially earlier on in their careers. But Lowry was a scrub at this point, and a scrub light heavy at that.

The information regarding Silverman was written exactly as I found it.

IT does not matter when Lowry made his comments. His comments regarding the bout provide an explanation of why the judges scored the bout the way they did. Rocky altered his fight plan and the new fight plan made Lowry less effective.

Source for your comments please? Show me where Silverman says Marciano deserved the win.

No, I'm not presuming he threw them all.
He might well have thrown the Marciano fight and some others. He might have thrown none, ever. Some of those other losses might have been close or disputed too. That's my point. You can't just look at the record and draw the conclusion as to his quality from that alone. It seems he fought well against Marciano.
Lowry was stopped just 3 times in 149 fights. He knew his way around a boxing ring.

Lowry had lost his last seven fights, and won just one of his last eleven.

What's your point, most fighters have a little stumbling block along the way. Some even come unstuck and lose, that's boxing pal.

I'm trying to put the Marciano /Lowry fights in perspective, sorry if you don't like that!

Yes, and what did the newspapers and biographies say about those fights ?
    I'm genuinely interested.

Everyone is discussing "Marciano W10 Lowry 1949 (Unan. Dec.)" in fine detail, showing there's more to it that meets the eye.

Then Seamus mentioned Lowry's form, but in a way which doesn't get behind the simply "W" or "L" sheet at all.

I'm raising the question/possibility that some of those fights might have been poor decisions or dodgy showings.
Usually, journeymen who suffer bad decisions and/or deliberately pull their punches against 'house fighters' tend to have form along those lines too.

It needs to be researched some time.

    You mean you don't hav
Lowry losing to other decent journeymen and fringe contenders is acceptable imo.
    Losing to :
    Chubby Wright 27-31-3 x2
    Sandy McPherson 18-18-3
    Tommy Digorgio 8-6-0
    Roy Thomas 13-11-3
    Mike Jacobs12-7-3
    Vince Pimpinella 29-42-9
    Cleve Bailey[168lbs]12-22-3
    Really illustrates Lowry's level.

What perspective? You haven't even seen the fight so your perspective and reality might be a mile apart.

And yet we believe he gave 20-0 Marciano a hard fight, was very possibly robbed, and possibly let Marciano survive.
So what does that say about Lowry's level ?

That's my point. We can't have it both ways.

The reason we're talking about Lowry at all now is because he arguably beat a 20-0 punching prospect who went on to be champ of the world 3 years later.

I'm saying, if Lowry was possibly robbed or carried a man like that, what does it say about his losses to guys who were almost certainly lesser fighters ?
We don't know until we research it.

Lowry on sparring the 1943 Joe Louis:

"I was only 23 years old, but I didn't hit the floor and I didn't take a beat," he says proudly. "Afterwards, Joe paid me some compliments and told me I had a good future. He said I would go places. From then on, I never had fear in the ring again."
