It would be interesting, but they would still have to prove a hell of a lot, before you could justify favouring them!
It's the old story most on here are impressed with size, muscles and physique. None of which is indicative that a man knows how to fight.
Interesting.....surely Stevenson would outbox and damage Marciano early on? Rock had heart though, if the fight turned midway Teo would crumble would he not? It is not a fight I would bet on.
Pffttt... Stevenson was just as likely to have been a rolled gold professional dud like Jorge Luis Gonzalez than a champion. People get too excited about a fully developed Stevenson beating kids like Briggs and Tate or beating (another pro bust) in Bobick, who also beat him. He had a style suited to the amateurs which doesn't necessarily translate to being a successful pro and taken straight from the Olympics to meet an animal like Marciano over 15 rounds would be disastrous for the big Cuban imo. Marciano KO 10.
Lomachenko lost to Salido on the basis of being subjected to very dirty tactics. If Lomachenko, the best amateur of all time could lose to Salido, Marciano who was a rough, rugged warrior, would be something Stevenson has never seen before. Stevenson can potentially time Marciano well, he was a great puncher and a very intelligent fighter, but beyond this I see Marciano taking this.
I thought this was a mismatch when I posted on this a year ago... nothing has changed.... Replace Rocky with Frazier, Liston, Patterson, Norton, Holmes, Lewis I say Stevenson is getting knocked out unless he does some hard yards fighting at least 15 pros of varying caliber and that's victories. If he goes that route who knows but he must develop a game that suits 15 or 12 rounders. He simply cannot do what Rademacher did and go straight from amateur olympic gold to a title shot like he did against Patterson... that is suicide, especially against a proven killer like the Rock from Brockton.
That would be great if the sport was called fighting. Stevenson had something like 330 boxing matches on his record, the majority at the very top level of the sport. Put these guys side to side and you would think they were different species.
One a three round amateur. Another an ATG professional that could fight 15 rounds with ease. Absolutely no chance Stevensen is not koed in a relatively easy fight for Marciano. Your minimal knowledge of the sport shines like the sun.
Oh, he knew how to fight. Stephenson was a mobile big man with skills. He also had rare one punch KO power in his right hand and waxed some impressive fighters who became professional. His power was on the level or Foreman, or Liston. Just watch what happens when he lands and how he moves his opponents with the force of the impact. Only stopped once as far as I know, and that was at the hands of the thunderous punching Vystosky. You can question how good or bad his stamina would be in a 10-15 round fight. That is unknown, but in terms of the rest, we saw it. Judge for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAFvQUyA470
I watched all of his major AMATEUR bouts live when they occurred. He had a very amateur type stand up style and would have had a very difficult time with the crouching weaving Marciano. It's not a debatable subject. No amateur is besting an ATG hwt champion. If you believe so you have plenty to learn.
I ate mine already. Next time I'll order the extra large. I find it funny that a Marciano fan says Stephenson looked like an amateur. Rocky was considered crude by many. I counted 17 clean whiffs in his fight vs Archie Moore in one round. Stevenson would be the biggest puncher Rocky ever faced by a big margin. Rocky's chin is untested vs a puncher on this level. Stevenson won gold in three consecutive Olympics ( 1972, 1976 and 1980 ) and two world amateur boxing championships from 1974 and 1978. So from 1972-1980, he completely cleaned house. During these times, he KO'd Bobbick and Tate. If this is not enough Stevenson won the world amateur again in 1986 when he was past his best! Keep in mind back then they often did not heave head gear and the matches were often politically charged from the cold war era.
with a proper pro career first I would claim it was very possible Teo could of beaten the Rock. Teo was a beast and to deny this is wrong and you should get a whopping :bbb :deal if someone is expecting Teo to just face the Rock over 15 with pro rules than that's kind of silly, huge advantage Rocky if that be the case obviously,,, anyone that would get this point mixed up with confusion needs their ass kicked right out of this thread pronto :deal
