Rocky marciano vs the future champions

Definitely quality.

I know some of the more experienced posters such as yourself know enough to make that distinction, thankfully.

 

Rockys head is almost always in constant motion.
With his crouch he had way more dynamic head movement.

He also had very subtle slips hard to see on old cameras.

If you look carefully, you can see Rocky moving his head side to side before he slips and ducks.

 

In that first gif, look how he slips down, then to his right, then back and forward with that overhand right.

Constant slipping, upper body movement, head movement.

 

So to sum this up, there are several posters who feel that just because Orlin Norris a ( 200-220 lbs ) fringe contender/gatekeeper had mixed results in winning and losing to a few aging modern fringe guys that Marciano ( a man who never fought over 190 ) would do even better and not just against THOSE same fringe guys but the best of the modern era, regardless of obvious differences in styles, circumstances and size... Okay... Well I've had my fun with this for one afternoon.. Thank God my Mondays at work aren't usually this slow.... Have a great day..

 

Does make you chuckle, these same nuggets will try and claim Joe Louis would wipe the floor with the giants of the modern era......

 

Nobody is saying Lennox Lewis cannot compete in yesteryears' era. People are trying to imply that Marciano cannot successfully bulk up like Norris, Tyson and Tua did to compete in the modern era.

 

But the difference is that Marciano never showed he could do this and be effective. Not only did those other guys manage it, but they competed above 200 for basically their ENTIRE careers. Why is that so difficult to see and accept?

 

Lard arse James Toney did it whilst being punch drunk and 90 year old but not a chance Rocky Marciano could......

 

And what exactly did lard arse james Toney manage to accomplish? Did he beat Lewis? Did he dominate either of the Klit brothers? Did he put together a string of wins over top prime contenders? Not really.. He beat an aging shot to hell Evander Holyfield who almost everyone and their brother was beating by that stage and needed steroids to do it... If you were to ask me if Rocky could achieve that same feat then I'd say yes, but I doubt any credible fan or expert would pay any mind to it.

 

The good old PED excuse, like he was the only one dabbling in gear. Who said anything about dominating Lewis or beating the Klitschko's? Do you really believe Joe Louis or Jack Dempsey would do the same, my arse they would.

 

Not true. 192.5 is his highest to my knowledge.

 

If someone REALLY wants to make a case for Rocky they should reference Bert Cooper. He turned pro at 190 lbs and filled out at a nice muscular 215. He had a similar ( though Different ) style to Marciano and body type. He gave prime versions of Holyfield, Mercer and Moorer fits while beating decent heavies in Norris, De Wit, Hipp, and Ross. That's an argument and a comparison that I might be able to see, though it still doesn't address the fact that Rocky never showed he could fight over 192.
