    jesus..... ohmmmmm relax...

you said " a lot bigger" , i know that marciano was naturally a little bigger than toney, but not "a lot". 10 pounds of difference is not a big difference. And toney is 5'10 , boxrec also listed him ar 5'10.

toney looked fine ar 217 using roids, at 230 he was only a pig.
Wrong!! toney had a better style to face big guys because he was very elusive, he had great move of head, marciano was a slow guy easy to hit who would be slower over 210 pounds and even easier to hit, plus his best department the stamima would be worst.

Marciano had way more head movement than Toney.

Toneys style is suicide against SHWs. He only succeeded because his guts, intelligence and mental fortitude. Toney was special.

Why not allow him the opportunity to add weight if he wants?

Why insist he stays at 190 or less?

If 217 was Marciano's best weight, Goldman would have had him at 217. Does everyone here think they know more than Goldman did in regards to what he had in Marciano?

Fury walks around closer to 300 than 200. How in the hell do you suppose he gets down to 210?

Why would 217 have to be his best weight?

Michael Spinks best weight was 175 but he still gained to face Holmes. Jones Jr best weight was 175 but he still gained to face Ruiz.

Ward's best weight is 168 but he added weight when he moved to LHW.

If Usyk does move to HW I'd be amazed if he still came in at 198 or 199 like he has been doing recently.

There are countless examples of fighters adding weight to increase strength and resistance. It doesn't mean it's their best weight but it does mean they can better compete with world class heavier opposition.

Rocky would be a CW today. If he wanted to fight at HW he would undoubtedly add weight.

James Toney weighed 160 for a good part of his career. Marciano ran 10 miles a day and was 185, I'd like to see what Toney comes in at doing that kind of roadwork matter of fact he hardly even did any running. Almost all sparring.

Being in fighting shape doesn't mean being physically in shape in the non-boxer sense. A fighter can have his ass hanging over the front of his shorts but still be considered in fighting shape.

It has already been established that Marciano was not easy to hit and that his style was pretty difficult for taller opponents. Marciano's bobbing style would put his head at, if not below the waist of the big guys he's matched up with. Sure, Toney was hard to hit but he was no harder to hit for a smaller guy than a bigger guy.

Marciano wasn't as slow as most try to portray him as and like I said, he never relied on speed so whatever speed deficiency he has wouldn't matter.

No, his stamina would not become his worst department. Why do you say these obviously outlandish things? Sure it wouldn't be what it was but he still would have a leg up over any super heavyweight over 12 rds.

That's because 217 wasn't his best weight. Go back and read my posts in this thread, I elaborated on it. Marciano's strength was stamina so if he came in at 210+ his stamina would not be as good. Goldman knew that size isn't everything. Conditioning beats size.

Fury was referring to Klitschko when he said that.

I think Marciano's weight would be capped in the low 200s. There aren't many places for him to add muscle.

To be in shape I agree.

He could probably also go 250 and look like Toney. One musn't underestimate how much a belly full of cheeseburgers weigh.

Toney actually weighed 190+ as a football player in high school so I don't really consider him smaller than Marciano. And his style lent itself to beating plodding heavyweights while grossly out of shape like none other. He was an exception.

And Marciano weighed 210 as a baseball player before becoming a boxer? So?

Marciano's x factor of power and stylistic approach is just as great if not better suited for beating plodding heavyweights.

Not while fat as hell like Toney. Btw baseball doesn't require conditioning like being a fullback or quarterback; Toney played both of those positions.
