I've said it before and I stick by it now... Terrible Tim was just a stones throw away from being great. See for yourselves. This content is protected
Everything about Marciano seems contentious as **** around here so before I say anything has the 925 ft-lbs that's shared online and said to have been from the Army been accepted here or is that just asking for an argument? Second question is who do we have that's comparable? I can do conversions just fine, but who else has been measured in a valid SI unit? PSI isn't valid, it doesn't quantify transferred force just pressure. In other words it can't see the difference between a slapping, pushing, snapping etc shot while ft-lbs does. I assume ft-lbs is used only in the states. The only place I've seen it is in relation to firearms. Because often I think the question becomes just how special was Marciano's punch. I know 925 is way more than any man can just eat, what I want to know is how common a figure like that is in the division. Not based off what you think because X said Y or because B is huge but by the numbers if possible.
Witherspoon doesn't have fast enough feet to keep away from Marciano and he's a really sloppy fighter when he gets into exchanges.
I`ll always remember the night he went to England and stopped Bruno after Frank came out on fire and took the lead. It was a great night for Witherspoon right up till he realized Don King was taking most of his $
Why does size matter here? Witherspoon isn't stronger, he doesn't lean on opponents, and he sure as hell doesn't hit harder.
Tim at his best was a very dangerous fighter that fight could go ether way rock would have to stand on spoons toes and really work him over to get the win down the stretch. The spoon who wasn't up for it would be outworked and battered up close .
Ft lbs is used in the Uk .an air rifle has to be below 12 ftlbs or it is classed as a fire arm.to put that in context a full bore deer rifle is around 3000 ftlb .925 ftb is about the same as a colt .45 .rocky could hit!!!
Tim would stop him, period. He was so much bigger, had a iron chin, a terrific right hand, was stronger, could box and punch .. to see him against a 185 pound 5'11" guy who relied on strength and power is not a good fight ..
Witherspoon definitely was not stronger than Marciano and he didn't hit harder. His boxing ability wasn't that good either. He had pretty slow feet.
Workrate was Rocky's strength and Spoon's weakness. Actualized potential was Rocky's strength, Spoon's weakness. Potential does not win this for Spoon. Rocky was a true champion - like the old Larry Holmes who prevailed against young Spoon. Spoon was a cut or two below.
I saw Witherspoon last year at some under ground boxing event in P.A..hardly recognized him he had shades and was very heavy. He was running it which I thought bizarre. Was in good spirits.
