Marciano was a hard hitter and an above average defensive fighter, and found a way to win every fight he was in. Loughran was one of the better defensive fighters of all time, used the ring superbly, was as tough as they come, but not really famous for knockout power. Unfortunately, we were robbed of this matchup because 25 years separated the two men. But if it was possible that they could match up, how would it go? My personal guess is Loughran by decision after a 15-round classic. I don't see Loughran getting into trouble against Marciano because his whole career was made by facing larger, stronger men like Baer and Carnera and Braddock who could have knocked him out. But Marciano still found a way to win every fight he ever took. Anyone have an opinion on this one?
This is certainly an intriguing matchup and the outcome is far from a given. I would be inclined to pick Marciano to come from behind and eventualy get to Loughran in the latter rounds due to his workrate and pressure. Not a given though..............
Rocky would find a way to win. This is what Rocky does. Loughran had his hands full with Mickey Walker. Dealing with a bigger, stronger, harder hitting version, it's pretty bad news for Tommy.
Yep, just like when Sharkey ko Loughran in the 3rd round. I dont see Loughran making it out of round 3 on Marciano's good day.
I think the Sharey KO was a bit of a fluke to be honest. The sort of thing that is bound to happen sooner or later whn you have the number of fights against elite level oponents that Loughran had. I would rate him as one of the more durable heavyweights of his era.
Loughran could make things interesting in the early rounds, but he lacked the punch to get Rocky's respect. Rocky either stops him late or chases Loughran out of the ring.
This is one of thoses matches between favorites that I don't even like to think about, but since it's been thought about already, I see a scenario plying out similar to the 2nd LaStarza fight, only, since Loughran was better than Rollie, he would last into the 14th round before the inevitable succumbing to Marciano's abuse, and the ref would stop it, after Tommy lasted longer than any of the Rock's ko victims.
