For one, the greatest boxer of all time said so himself.

Also, he knocked out a formidable Joe Louis.

No, he didn't say what you say he said. If he had, I'd still disagree with him.

Joe Louis wasn't nearly as mobile as Ali, Holmes, and Tubbs... (and I won't even mention the obvious disclaimer about his fight with Marciano)

    Tyson wasn't 185 lbs.

Tubbs hits him with a few combos and ties him up when he tries to punch back. Tubbs, Ud-12.

What do you mean? He said Marciano would constantly come after him and bruise his arms.

And I wouldn't disagree with the best mobile man with a good jab and speed.

He's saying that Marciano would constantly come forward and hit his arms...quite a stretch to interpret that to mean that it would be impossible to keep him at bay.

How do you bruise someones arms and constantly come at them, if you're being kept at bay?

Easy. Even if he were mostly just following, eating jabs, and swinging at air, at least some of his punches are bound to crash against his opponents' guards, a prospect that Ali finds unpleasant. I think you are reading way too much into it.

Marciano might have beaten the version of Tubbs who fought Tyson.. Tubbs took over a year off after losing to Tim Witherspoon.. Returned in 1987 to face three journeyman - one of whom put him in the deck. By the time he fought Tyson in 1988 he was an out of shape 238 lbs and hadn't beaten a decent opponent since 1985.

But he did outbox the much larger and dangerous Rid**** Bowe while he was still undefeated, in his prime and hungry (no pun intended). The same Bowe who ripped the belts from Holyfield very shortly after.

Just because Tubbs is fat, he's being sold short here.

It's not just about being fat. Tubbs wasn't active enough on the world scene going in against Tyson. And I'm not sure that this version of Tubbs would beat Marciano. In fact I would almost bet against it.. Incidentally, Tubbs despite being 3 years older against Bowe, was better prepared than he was against Tyson. He was visibly in better shape, had been keeping busier and looking sharper. And while he fought well I still gave the fight to Bowe.. I've never bought into the notion that Tubbs was robbed. It was a close fight but he didn't do enough to win. And the rendition of Bowe whom Tony faced was still 10 fights away from winning the title, so no.. It wasnt the same Bowe who beat Holy.

Tubbs didn't try to avoid the infight with Tyson.
Tubbs was a better infighter than Tyson, technically.Tubbs was cute on the inside.
Tubbs was just outgunned, and he was out-of-shape. He had neither the firepower nor the durability to beat Tyson, on the inside or the outside. Tyson finished him at both ranges.
Tyson was just a more disciplined, more powerful fighter.
    Tubbs' technique counted for little.

    Marciano would KO Tubbs too.

Tubbs is very underrated fighter with great speed and skill will give rock lots of problems early in the fight but I think rockys relentless attack will grind down tony and stop him late exhausted on the ropes.

Tubbs was a nothing. Marciano overwhelms him for the ko in 10 rounds in a one sided fight.
