Rocky Marciano. Was he overrated, or as great as his fanboys make him out to be?

Even the fat girl in your avatar knows that Marciano was overrated. I proved what I wanted to in this 6 minute old poll! We arent interested in your vote either. But thanks for following my threads around like Boy George following Derek Jeter out of the shower. :good

I wish I had lived in the 50's to see him fight and train.I'm lucky I got a great quality Walcott vs Marciano I copy recently and it was amazing.Sugar Ray wearing a great suit was there,Joe Louis,Jim Braddock and a fre others I forgot.I believe Gene Tunney was also there.Too bad fighters are not brought in the ring before a big fight like before.:good

I'm amazed that Walcott was able to escape out of the Retirement Home long enough to catch a train to the Stadium and fight.

His resume really wasn't weak at all. That's a myth. If anyone actually had any knowledge of his secondary opposition (outside of the big 4 of Louis, Walcott, Charles, and Moore), or even looked objectively at the aforementioned older fighters he faced and their rankings/accomplishments around that time, they'd realize these wins are underrated, if anything.

He came around in an era where certain fighters were on their way out, while others were on their way in, so he never really got a chance to make the prime for prime superfights people rag on him for. He did what he could in that era and went out on top, never faltering once.

He's not the greatest HW, though an argument can be made for top 5 on an era by era basis.

Agreed. We all know about the 6 defenses in something like 3 years. Rocky is overrated when his fans try to say he is the best ever heavy. What I want to know is if his resume is so bad, who is it that he could've fought, and is it his fault that he came at a time the division was weak. The thread starter just wanted to make his sorry ass weak point. TT, the OP tried to box, and found out he couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag lol... David Duke is a foul mouthed scumbag who is the scum of the earth lol...

I somewhat agree,LaStarza and all the rest were hungry young lions. But his record is still weak and somewhat overrated.

There wasn't really anybody else he could have fought, he did everything he could. I do think its quite weak considering his lofty rankings, but he makes up for it in other areas, and the unbeaten record.

    JP,

You seem to get special delight in stickin' pins in the Rock, or do ya just like breakin' balls?
