Rocky Marciano. Was he overrated, or as great as his fanboys make him out to be?

    He beat:

-Jersey Joe Walcott twice by KO (a fighter who progressed as he aged, fresh off two wins over Ezzard Charles prior to the first Rocky fight, one of which was by KO, the top ranked challenger at the time)

-Ezzard Charles twice, once by KO (Charles was on his last legs by the time he fought Rocky, but he wasn't done until after Rocky got finished with him, in fact he'd just scored back to back KO's over powerpuncher Bob Satterfield and Coley Wallace, and within the past year or two had beaten Rex Layne and Jimmy Bivins, losing close decisions to top guys like Harold Johnson and Nino Valdes)

-Archie Moore by KO (It's not even logical to say Moore was shot or anything near, even if he was past his LHW prime, considering his substantial and impressive record not only just prior to facing Marciano, but after and for the rest of his career, which spanned 8 more years)

-Joe Louis by KO(obviously past his prime, but not nearly as ineffective as is made out, as he'd just beaten top HW contenders Jimmy Bivins, Lee Savold, and Freddie Beshore just prior to being battered by Rock)

His secondary opposition includes other top HW contenders of the time like Nino Valdes, Roland LaStarza, Rex Layne, Kid Matthews, Lee Savold, and Freddie Beshore. That's pretty substantial for a career spanning less than 9 years, only the latter part being in championship contention. And he never faltered once.

According to most reports, Lowry ran him close, winning 3-4 of the 10 rounds, but it was by no means a robbery. He's more known as the only man to go the distance with Rock in their fights. And considering the fights aren't even available to my knowledge, how can you confirm this supposed robbery?

The press had Lowry winning 6-4 in rounds but I can't confirm this off course.

I've never heard of anything like that, not in reports of Marciano's fights nor of Lowry's fights, nor in articles of either fighter. Just that Lowry gave him two tough fights and was highly praised for managing to twice last the distance.

Jersey Joe Walcott. 58 years young, and with arthritis in both knees and elbows was able to still give the Rock a fight.

Ezzard Charles. Advanced stages of Glaucoma, couldnt see his own hand in front of his face, but didnt do too bad for a blind man.

Archie Moore. The old Mongoose was literally that. So old, that he was taken stright from a Hospital Bed to the ring. He did well, for a man in his 70's as well as could be expected.

Joe Louis. There exists archival footage on YouTube of Joe being wheeled into the Coliseum before the fights, and then allowed to walk in of his own power. That he went from being in a Wheelchair to a Championship fight only proves what a bad ass he is.

The rest of the men who fought Marciano. They wouldnt have lasted 3 rounds each with a Lewis or an Ali.

Neither Lewis nor Ali ever beat a prime fighter (or even a good one) under the age of 40 either, so what's your point?
