He would be a cruiser in the 1980's and a LHW now, with rehydration. So...

He left no one on table. Valdez blew it.

Valdez and Bobo Olsen, believe it or not, where the guys Al Weil was considering next.

Baker, Jackson, Satterfield, Johnson, Henry, Bucceroni, all around but not distinguished enough.

Patterson was campaigning at LHW. Liston, Williams, Machon and Foley not ready,

Yeah he never fought a number 1 contender he did fight Cooney who was number 2 though and he'd already beaten Weaver who was ranked 1 number for a few years.

Holmes did also try and fight Coetzee who I think may of been the number 1 contender at the time but the fight fell through I don't think it was either man's fault though.

Well I'm talking the 60s and 70s aswell he would pick up numerous losses in either era.

    I don't necessarily agree about the 60s.

the only way rocky could have proved more would be a hypothetical rematch vs charles but after 18 months and with at least a year of charles not fighting or sparring at all.

Well he would definitely lose to Ali and Liston and then you have fighters like Quarry, Patterson, Frazier, Terrell, Bonavena, Williams, Folley, Johannson.

I would say atleast 3 or 4 losses in that era.

marciano was well under 6 feet and pretty limited.

of course he loses to guys who are 6 inches taller and 50lb's heavier.

    who wouldn't?

By the time Marciano retired, Patterson was becoming a real possibility. He ended 1955 with a win over Jimmy Slade, who had entered the heavyweight ratings by beating Tommy Jackson. The following month, at Patterson's 21st birthday party, Cus D'Amato said that he was moving him up to heavyweight and hoped for a shot at Marciano in September.

Just posted the quotes in the other thread where Ali said Marciano would be his toughest fight.

Clarence Henry might be one of the better heavyweights never to fight for a title, but he was never a very compelling challenger for Marciano.

His high point is probably the end of 51, albeit he did have a brief resurgence in late 53.

The timeline never really lined up. But Henry probably should have been the guy Marciano was fighting for the belt as he was better than Walcott.

So you'd pick Marciano to beat Ali ? Liston ? Frazier ? I originally said Marciano would take numerous losses in the 60s you disputed it so obviously you make him the favourite vs all of the above.

    Can't say I agree.
