I don't think it's impossible to say that Rocky would never beat Sonny. I saw these comments in another thread which inspired me to start this one. Makes a lot of sense actually, especially how Rocky's words later rang true.

Rocky could break Sonny's spirit by countering with bonecrushing shots everytime Sonny misses a hook or jab. Thoughts on this one? It hasn't been discussed lately.

If he can take time out of his schedule from saving the world, i don't doubt it.

what makes you think sonny would fold so easy?
Listen took big shots throughout his prime, and still managed to KO good contenders.
Listons Jab would keep rocky outside. And his booming uppercut and explosive left hook would hurt rocky, I think Liston stops him myself, he would dominate him from the outside and still hold his own inside

Just my opinion. Sonny folded to Ali. He might just fold to Rocky. Seems that Rocky already knew how to exploit the man's weaknesses. Aside from Ali, Sonny would be facing the toughest man he ever fought.

Liston was frustrated by Ali's antics and boxing style moreso then his will. He didn't fold to Williams, he won't fold to rocky, IMO. and Williams starts much faster then rocky. Probably a more explosive pincher too.

I personally wouldn't pick Rocky against Liston, just because Liston has too many advantages... The size, reach, jab, power, etc.

Liston, has all the advantages over R.Marciano. Also, Marciano would be tailor made for Liston and that 84 inch jab would be critical to the cut prone R.Marciano. Liston Tko 8 rounds.

    By the way

I was watching Liston vs Whitehurst the other day, and counter how many punches Liston threw in round 9 for fun.

In Round 9, he threw 130 punches

Liston was a beast. Ali took his heart in that ring

He did the same thing to Foreman.

I think Marciano would put up a better fight then people are making it out to be, but in my mind, I agree it is an inevitable knockout for the Big Bear

I like Sonny Liston by unanimous decision. Liston would be smart to box Mariano here. Use his jab to breakdown Marciano, use his skills and reach to score points at a length from rocky. Only mix it up when he is forced too, and dish out most of his major punishment then with his powerful left hooks and clubbing right hands. Liston has tremendous physical tools and power to put rocky away, while liston be wear of marcianos roundhouse right over the top of a jab. I think Liston had the toughness and stamina to weather any late rocky storm that would threaten liston . Rocky would be the one who takes the most punishment in this fight. Rocky had a granite chin though, and I think he would make it a point to make sure he finishes the fight on his feet.

Appears Liston's only real vulnerability was to a big right hand.

Liston's toughest opponent was Marty Marshall, who broke his jaw in one fight and knocked him down in reatch, weighing a mere 179 pounds.

Rocky would be walking through a meat-grinder & get KO'd.

Marciano was knocked down by a 37 year old man, and a 40 year old light heavyweight.
    Easy isn't it?
