Did you ever see Spinks knock out Cooney.

Against Marciano, Jerry would not of gotten up of the canvas.

It's settled...this, along with all your other threads show you to be one of the worst contributors to this, or any forum ever. You're a confrontational, immature, loudmouthed lout without any real discussion/communication skills. You're an obnoxious, "know-it-all" ******* and nothing more.:hi:

And the same can be said for his supporters ... no secret why ...

That being said, Marciano was a great cruiserweight and a monster puncher for a 185 pound guy ... I always rate him higher pound for pound than as an all time heavyweight ...

Shawn Kemp, could you give us some idea what, in the context Marciano fought in, would have constituted a demonstration of what you mean by great heavyweight punching power?

Surely you don't base such a claim from the content posted on this forum ... I see Marciano as a very polarizing figure and none of it had anything to do w Rocky personally ..

Now I must apologise to people who objectively do not rate Marciano highly, who have no particular obsession with him, who I obviously do not include in this group.

you spelled it out pretty good, the hater are unchangeable in there opinions simply because of their agenda or racial hatred and you are correct Marciano has the most haters...could a lot of it be because he is white and Italian I think most of it. There are a few people obsessed with size or think Marciano was without skill but as they age or mature in the game of boxing knowledge Marciano like a taste for fine wine grows on you.

Except that he'd be fighting at cruiserweight in today's setting.

Given that two modern cruiserweights have been able to move up and demonstrate their ability to affect modern day heavyweights with their punches (Haye against the likes of Valuev and Ruiz; Huck against Povetkin), it's plausible that Marciano might possess the same ability...especially given that he was able to score stoppage wins over fighters who weighed over 200lbs during his career.

    But that's conjecture.

What's not a matter of conjecture is the fact that Marciano could punch. Hard. He broke down and defeated fighters, more often than not stopping them, in spite of the fact that a few of them possessed advantages in terms of experience and in terms of classical skill-set. There was a reason for this...and it wasn't due to affiliation with the mob or due to the color of his skin.

You'd think people would be content to leave matters at that...I suspect that probably won't be the case, though.

Huck was a cruiserweight who affected Povetkin with his punches. And while he weighed more than the cruiserweight limit against he didn't weigh very much more and moved back down in his next fight. He was basically a cruiserweight, with a delivery system that wasn't any more refined or advanced than the Rock's. And he still hurt a heavyweight titlist who was in everyone's Top 3 and gave him hell.

Exception to the rule? Maybe. But if there's one, than there can certainly be another.

At cruiserweight? You don't think that Marciano wouldn't be able to break down Lebedev in the same manner as a slow as molasses 41 year old former jr. middleweight? You don;t think he'd have the same chance at reaching the chin of YPH, in much the same manner that Troy Ross did...or of finishing him if and when he had the chance? Or of outworking Huck in much the same manner that a 40something Arslan did?

A fighter with the attributes and skill-set of Marciano would run wild over the cruiserweights of this era; or just about any other cruiserweight era that didn't contain Holyfield. To state anything else is just being obtuse and myopic.

And if a fighter with the attributes and skill-set of Marciano moves up, chance are he can do some damage, take some scalps and possibly grab a title if matched against anyone not named Klitschko. If Ademeck can move up without possessing any one great attribute at cruiser and make it to the Top 5, Marciano sure as hell could. :deal

Red Cobra I would be offended if you actually knew anything about boxing 12 thousand post so you been around for a while and still don't know **** about boxing let me put you my ignore ist now.

Guilahah now let answer your question. Real heavyweight power is the power to fight actually heavyweights and knock out real modern sized heavyweights. Easy isn't is? Having the power to knock out 160 pound fighters with weak chins like Archie Moore doesn't mean you have true heavyweight power and you can knock out guys like McCall and other sturdy heavyweights like Marciano idiot fanboys tell you.

Not sure of the purpose of this thread but having worked various doors on pubs and clubs over the years i can tell you straight a 180lb guy can knock out someone weighing 220lb+ quite spectacularly.

Epping Forest County Club back in the 1980's we had a guy called Jeff on the door, pretty much Marciano's build, certainly no bigger.
Let me tell you now, when Jeff hit these big guys on the button, they went down and stayed there and trust me, some of them were no mugs and could hold their hands up on the cobbles.

I also witnessed the same guy hit clean with all manner of stuff, punches, cosh, Fence post one night and he could take it.

End of the day, some guys are just born with the ability to absorb enormous amounts of punishment and some are born with the god given power to sit anyone on their arse.

Rocky Marciano was one of these.
