Since there's been some extremely insightful and refreshing talk on the Rocky universe lately, I figured some discussion on match-ups with fighters from that universe would be welcome.

How would Drago go against, say, Clubber Lang?

A prime Apollo Creed vs. the Rocky that came in to fight Drago? Basically both of them at their absolute peaks.

Was Rocky himself past his best by the time he fought Apollo, with 60 fights to his credit, 20 of them losing efforts? Did it become at that point will over skill because of what his body had been through?

    Clubber vs. Tommy Gun?

Rocky was old as **** when he fought Drago. Far past his best. As for who would win between Lang and Drago, good question. Lang has the edge in power and professional experiance, but Drago probably has the edge in everything else. Lang gassed after 3 rounds against Rocky, that's pathetic for a proffesional fighter. I think Drago keeps him on the end of his long jab for a few rounds before polishing him off with his right hand, Klitschko style.

Drago-Lang is tough but I'll favor Clubber. Both guys are huge punchers, Clubber probably more so, look at the damage he gave Balboa in their first fight in 2 short rounds. Even in their rematch he came closer to finishing off Rocky than Drago did. Rocky beat Lang by having the greatest jaw in the history of the world and using his newfound slickness to sort of "rope a dope" Clubber making him miss and became fatiqued. Drago was not by any stretch slick and didn't have the defensive skills to avoid Lang like Balboa. Dragos power always keeps him in it but look at the amount of punishment it took for the best Rocky that ever fought to take out the unmotivated and content Clubber Lang. No one takes Clubber out with a single shot and he also had more heart than Drago. I'll pick Lang by a 4th round KO.

I don't think the Balboa that fought Drago was at his peak, he was becoming faded at that stage. He was too slow to even catch robot Drago, prime Rocky was the one trained by Apollo that took out Clubber Lang. In a matchup between him and prime Creed who we never saw, i'll favor Creed, barely. I don't think Rocky was past his best against Apollo, not even close. If anything he had yet to reach his peak.

Clubber Lang takes out Tommy Gunn in one round. Gunn is Rocky with less heart and a much, much worse chin, and Lang split wins with Balboa.

Lang gassed because he was throwing non stop full power haymakers at Balboa who was avoiding all of them. Drago doesn't possess nearly enough defensive skills or savvy to do that. Lang also didn't train for the Balboa rematch, he fell into the trap that he thought he was unbeatable. The Lang that fought Balboa first was an entirely different monster.

Lang was beast anD IMO, would have beaten all of them prime for prime maybe except for a prime Creed.

We never, ever saw a primed Apollo Creed. And what he had was still to much for the physically primed Rocky Marciano. Creed is the best of the bunch, though Drago's size and mobility would probably always have given him problems (if not death).

Prime Creed beats prime Balboa, Lang, Drago
Prime Balboa beats prime Lang, Drago
    Prime Drago beats prime Lang.
    Lang gets the short straw.

What about Gunn and Dixon? Just not worth mentioning in the scheme of things?

Gunn would get brutalised by Lang, beaten and broken

I too, agree that Creed was the best, always have thought this. But in actual h2h terms, on his best night, Balboa cannot be beaten for me, HE was an up-rising of nature.
