The knock on Marciano is that he never faced a big, prime heavyweight of class. Let's suppose Valdes had gotten by old Archie and received a title shot ,how would he have done against Rocky?
"There's a first time for everything" -Archie Moore Honestly if Archie (beat by Marciano), Baker (beaten by Archie) and Satterfield (beaten by Layne) beat Valdes, then I don't like his chances. Marciano KO mid rounds
I'd pick Marciano to beat Valdes ,but I'm not sure if he stops him.If he does ,I think it would be late.
Marciano had an average top-level contenders KO round of 6, so I don't like Valdes, who's been stopped 5 times, here. I especially don't like him against a more explosive, faster starting 1951/53 Marciano Though in this case they're fighting in 55, so I pick Marciano by mid KO/stoppage
Valdes could be inconsistent at times ,certainly was during back end of Rocky as champ. But he definitely deserved a shot ,the guy had quality. But I don't think he'd best Rocky but he would give him hell for leather. If he takes on Rocky who faced Moore ,then I see Valdes dropping him as well .But Marciano plug's away giving him the edge in scoring. A decision win for Rock ,that really makes his mind up to retire.
