    Thoughts...:think

    I personally think it's a little premature.

Come on, Manny Pacquiao is already a champion in 8 different divisions. He became "the man" in four different divisions. 112, 126, 130, and 140. He is the only boxer today who has achieved this much. Not to mention that Pacquiao started at 106 pounds.

I understand, but usually you wait until after the fighter retires to accurately rank him historically. Imagine SSM KOs him in 1 round, then he rematches Marquez and gets KOd, then Ariza comes out and says he's been juicing Pac up... I know all of that is VERY unlikely. Just saying you usually wait till after the career is over to rank with the ATGs.

yep, he's on that level and that's how history will classify him. It's gonna be funny when half this board has to tell their grandkids that they never saw the great Manny Pacquiao in action because they were too busy hating on him on message boards.

So you're saying Pac is at the end of his career? Seems like he's right in his peak.

Rodel Mayol has taken too many shots to the head clearly. Calderon messed up his equilibrium.

Lets pretend we dont know anything about Ali other than what he's done in the ring, same for Pac and lets pretend they are known simply as Fight A & B.

Fighter A beats the dominant and ATG HW Liston, slightly past it in the first and suspicions of a fix fight in the 2nd. He also beats another ATG heavyweight in Frazier(1 decision being controversial) although he loses to him too. He does the unthinkable and beat the new big champ at the time in Foreman when he was an underdog. He also beats a whole list of B level contender/champs like Norton, Spinks, Lyle, Chuvalo, Patterson etc. Retires with a record of 56(37)-5-0. First 3 time HW champ of the world. Won "Fighter of the Year" 4 times total and was recognised by majority to be the greatest fighter of his generation and the 60's.

Fighter B beats top 3 p4p and ATG FW in MAB where he was a big underdog. He goes on to beat a past it ATG FW Morales. He beats HOF'er JMM in controversial decision and draw once. He beats some more HOF fighters in Cotto & Hatton. He jumps up 2 weight divisions to beat a past it ATG in ODLH where he was a huge underdog. During his career he beat a few B level contender/champs, the likes of Sasakul, Ledwaba, Larios, Clottey, Margarito. His current record is 52(38)-3-2. He is the first 8 division champ, 4 divison lineal champ. Won "Fighter of the Year" 3 times and recognised by most to be the "fighter of the decade" from 2000.

Looking at that, without the mystical side of things associated with past fighters, specially Ali, they easily belong on the same ranks.

It's a little too soon because we don't know how the rest of his career will play out...but if something horrible happened and he couldn't fight again, I'd have no problem saying his accomplishments are on par with Ali's. If he does indeed go 5-0 in his last 5 fights (assuming he beats Mosley), beating more top guys like Marquez, a couple young guns like Bradley and Berto, and a couple others, I'd probably put him over Ali. Especially if he beats Mayweather as one of those last few fights. That kind of resume in the modern era is just plain sick.
