Any thoughts on this one?.I don't have a strong opinion on it myself, but i'm interesting in any takes from those that have seen Gonzalez in action.
Got to review the Carmona and Guts fights to give an opinion on this one. Been a while since I've seen then. Is there anything else out there with him? Would love to see his fights with Navarro, Robertson, Puddu and Cervantes.
as far as i know it's only the Carmona and Guts fights that are out there.The Cervantes fight would be interesting to see, as he had Cervantes on the floor and the cards were about even when it was stopped on cuts.

Gonzalez vs Duran probably would have been a pearler in 72-73...The young unpolished Duran could have been in some seriously deep water. As for Kenny vs Gonzalez...I dont know...all Ive seen of Rodolfo is what GreatA just showed us. Id like to think Buchanan can box his way to victory..keeping out of trouble with his ring generalship and skill. But Im not really basing that on anything solid.
As much as I like Gonzalez, I'm not sure his calm and methodical approach to pressing the fight would be able to move the fleet-footed, sharp-shooting Buchanan off his game the way a young, relentless Duran was able to. I do think he'd be able to get the better of Buchanan throughout most of the bout in the exchanges. Buchanan was a tough cookie, much tougher and better versed in the trenches than his frame and cute style would lead you to believe. That said, I believe Gonzalez was more skilled at that range, he really was a beautiful fighter to watch with Napolesesque footwork and movement, beautiful use of angles, and slicing, accurate combinations. It all comes down to if Gonzalez would be able to make Buchanan oblige to that type of fight. If El Gato could slip and counter on some of those jabs he could make Buchanan more willing to engage, thus leaning the fight towards him. As it is, I'll take Buchanan by close, competitive decision in an excellent fight. I think his fleetness of foot, height, and darting jab would allow him to gain the edge on the outside.
I've underrated Gonzalez in the past, but you're right he does have some good bounce and movement and uses the angles really well to land his shots. Absolutely beautiful body rhythm. I'm not sure how we can judge how he'd cope with a boxer type from the Carmona and Guts fights (especially given that he was on the way out against Guts) but one thing that seems pretty clear, even in his dominant display against Carmona, is that he is susceptible to the jab and doesn't have that great a defense. I'm sure Buchanan will be able to pile up the points with his very good jab, and if he can avoid or be mindful of Gonzalez countering off the jab he should be able to win more rounds off it. Ken's stamina and durability should see him cope with Gonzalez' pace and workrate though there will be plenty of exchanges and the action will be frenetic in parts.
