If Valdez doesn't stop Collins in spectacular fashion ala Briscoe or deck him ala Monzon (he would finish Steve off afterwards if he did), then the Irishman would trudge on and lose a clear decision.

Above sums it up. Gil Clancy's fighter Valdez is underrated.

Collins is way outta his league here. Valdez would have battered him.

Valdez. Hes a class or two above Collins. Collins best wins came against faded fighters and even then he was damn lucky against Eubank.

I think Collins is the one being sold a bit short here. Good movement, good size and strength, solid fundamentals...and very very tough. Valdez had some trouble with movement, and add to that Collins was very big for the weight. I agree that he caught Eubank and Benn at the end (especially Benn, who was basically done after McClellan) but while I don't think he would beat a prime Eubank, I think he would give a good account. I also think Eubank would have beaten Valdez due to movement, size, and style by decision.

No way...Valdez was a league above Collins....this is prime Valdez we're talking about here....he pushed Monzon to the limit,...and a regional favorite like Steve Collins is supposed to beat him???

Yeah way. I think he could live with him Red...and he provided a tough fight for Monzon, but not to the limit. Valdez would destroy practically any aggressive middleweight that comes to him. so I don't sell him short...But Pete Toro and Ralph Palladin went rounds because they employed movement. Collins isn't a bad mover at all. And in their fights, Monzon pretty much controlled Valdez for my money. Monzon pretty much made him keep resetting...like he would practically every middleweight who ever lived. Valdez gave a good fight(s) but isn't on Monzon's overall level. Actually in their second fight, Monzon made an adjustment after getting clocked with that right hand, (when both were throwing simultaneously) after that he grabbed control for the most part...that nice little move...Collins does quite a bit. Combined with size, strength, chin, and movement, Collins could trouble and outpoint Valdez. It wouldn't be easy, but he has the traits to do it.
