Well My initial thought is, if Dangerous Don Lee could Derail Tony, then Rodrigo could too, If Cagey Kevin Finnegan could Outfox "Sibbo" Then The Rodrigo who classily Rode out the Briscoe Storms should be able to Rode out Tony's attacks also, But if Tony is on Form, then Rodrigo would probably have his hands full for Awhile, Tony was like a Bomb primed for Explosion, And Even Hagler paid him the Respect of Boxing off the Back Foot, and not getting too Involved in a Slugfest with Sibbo until he had drawn some of Tony's Sting, But even in that fight, For a Little squat Guy, Sibbo showed good movement, and had the usually spot on Hagler Missing on Occasion, Tony was of course back to his "Rollin Thunder" best in taking out Undefeated Irish John Collins in two rounds in his next Fight, Tony was picked a a Sacrificial Lamb/Name to Boost John Collins in to the Thick of the Contenders, but Sibbo Showed what he could do if you didn’t pay him the utmost respect, However I think whether its Trench Warfare, or Gorillia Raid Tactics, I think Rodrigo is tough enough and Classy Enough to have an adequate answer, Sibbo had an excellant Left Jab, and a big Left Hook any Philly Middle would have been proud to own, but when fights got Tough Sibbo tended to lose some Form and Start to Attack in straight Lines, still dangerous, and it proved effective against Dwight Davidson, But not I think the Classy and Tough Valdez, I think it would be very Lively and Exciting Early on, But Rodrigo hold his form longer, and Gets to Sibbo in the last 3rd of the fight for a Stppage over perhaps a Frustrated Sibbo' But if Valdez hangs his chin out and gets nailed by the type of Shot that Sibbo Nailed Wildman Frankie Lucus, Collins, or Alan Minter with , Rodrigo may become familiar with the Canvas, But itake Rodrigo to Pay Sibbo that Respect, and Hence come out on top in an Excellent Fight.
This could turn out to be a tough, entertaining fight, but there is no way Sibson could have beaten Valdez.
Sibbo had good hand speed and serious power, but Valdez is a league above him, imo.Valdez by late stoppage around the 10th.
The cops may have had to arrest Valdez for what he would do to Sibson. You've got to be joking, prime Valdez vs. Sibson? It would be a mismatch. Maybe prime, top of this game Sibson vs. 1980 Valdez, but surely not 73 thru '77 Valdez. Rodrigo would have ko'ed Tony in 2 rounds, a clean knockout, not the technical variety. He would have beaten Hagler's time against him for sure.
I can't see it being quite that easy. Valdez struggled quite a bit(he was badly hurt at one point)with the stronger Tonna and did only stop Briscoe once out of three. The two closest fighters to Sibbo that he fought. Sibson is a bit underrated, he was at least as dangerous as fighters like Benn, Briscoe or Tonna and would have given Valdez a tough fight before being stopped. Most times, it end up like Area53 said:Tough fight early before Valdez slowly takes over and grinds out the stoppage.
Sbbo too fast and talented. His left jab came out even faster than Hagler's. Rolls under and slips punches expertly and really knows how to hurt a guy, especitally to the body. Bad news for Vladez.
Good analysis, I saw a lot of Sibbo boxing in London,he could really whack with the left, and had fast hands and ,as you say, and ,an excellent jab. You are right about Sibbo losing the plot in the heat of battle, I remember him charging straight into Hagler ,while Duff and Francis screamed at him" roll your way in",and "tuck up". I think Valdez was a little better in all departments so I pick him ,and by late stoppage.
