The one that Rodriguez officially won, thus the third I believe. According to reports, the series was so close it could've just as easily been 3-1 for Rodriguez, even though it was scored as such for Griffith. This is actually supposed to have been their most decisive fight, a competitive but clear win for Rodriguez.
I haven't, though I'd love to see their series. It would appear that Cokes had Rodriguez's number, which is really a testament to his underrated skill in his prime (Napoles got the version on the decline, even if he'd have always beaten him).
I keep asking Coke's Mgr. if he got the k.o. fight film back.....but his copy is still lost. I will keep trying.
Rodriguez won the second fight, but I believe this is their third encounter. (I'm led to believe this because the ref in the Tube fight is the same ref in the copy of Griffith-Rodriguez III that I have: Jimmy Devlin. A different ref was used in Griffith-Rodriguez II). I have 7 of the 15 rounds (first 5 and last 2) with commentary by Dunphy on my copy of Griffith-Rodriguez III. I watched the beginnings of the first 5 rounds of my video and none of them were similar to the start of this video. Thus, I'm guessing the Tube footage here starts from around round 6 or 7? Hopefully someone that understands Spanish can inform us here.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it starts round 6. I just heard at around the 6:40 mark something that sounded like "terminado septimo round" Which pretty much means 'finish of the seventh round'. THANK GOD, you posted this Pea. I am finally going to get to score the whole of Griffith-Rodriguez III! Had it 3 rounds a piece and one even after the 7 I had already watched. Will post my complete score after watching it :good
Well, Luis ended up winning pretty much every round posted on youtube, so I had him taking the fight WIDE (can see why Pea thought this was the fight Rodriguez won officially, seeing as Rodriguez is clearly outboxing him). 146-140. This was a bad robbery imo. So far, having seen Griffith-Rodriguez II and III, I have Rodriguez winning lopsidedly, 147-139 in fight II and 146-140 in fight III. Wouldn't surprise me if I had Rodriguez clean sweeping him really, if he is winning/losing those fights with 'split' verdicts. Sheer farce.
Well, if you pause it at 3:39 you can see that it says "Round 7" on the board in the background. Having said that, I should also point out that the guy who posted this fight listed it as being their second fight (the one that Rodriguez won) from May of '63 in Los Angeles. Of course, it's possible he is mistaken. Judging from the action, it seems too lively to be their 2nd fight, and looks more like it's probably their 3rd or perhaps 4th fight.
:good It's definitely the third. From the 7 rounds of the third fight I have the ref is identical to the one that is on youtube. There was a different ref used in the 4th, so it can't be the 4th fight. Not sure the 4th fight was filmed actually. Or the first, btw.
So far, nobody knows of the 4th fight existing on film. I've seen very brief clips of the first fight, so it seems it probably does exist on film in some form, somewhere out there.
