it looked like sexton was looking at the ref while he signaled a no dont do it signal with his left hand. rogan saw it and just assumed it was over. sexton was completly finished at that point. i have seen stoppages stopped far ealier than sextons flopping. especially turning away from your opponant not long before that.
I've said this on other threads, but: What if Sexton's corner really had thrown the towel in - as Sexton was making out to Rogan - and Rogan had ignored it and knocked him the **** out? We'd all be jeering at him, especially if Sexton had suffered a lasting injury. The man could even have been killed.
i dont think rogie had anything left, thats why he never went for it, not compassion, sportsmanship or lack of killer instinct, simply he was ****ered.
just my opinion,i have seen it hundreds of times, you go for it big time, dont stopthe gezzer, you get an opening and you just cant throw anything.....it happens. maybe it was rogie being nice, but i cant see it,i mean he dont mind the elbow, hitting and holding etc....
it only takes a few seconds to catch your wind..... besides he was hardly throwing bombs, they were slow arm punches after that...
the ref was really poor for both fighters i thought, at some points it was developing into a decent scrap and he just kept pushing them a mile apart the round was ridiculous. SEXTON GAVE UP TWICE!!!! he turns his back when getting punched (protect yourself at all times) and then stops completely.crazy. he should have been stopped. on the other hand rogan should have been a ruthless and KO'd Sexton completely. although i suppose people would be saying Rogan was in hte wrong for punching a defencless boxer. rematch is a must. was there much talk about it happening?
I've just watched it agian and the reffing wasn't great prior to the 8th but it that round it seemed to me that Sexton was turned by the punches in the corner rather than actaully turning his back and he seemed to be pointing to his gumshield on the floor when Rogan held off hitting him. I'm sure the gumshield was a buying time tactic but its Rogan fault he didn't finish him off at the point.
I didn't notice that. It makes sense of a totally bizarre scenario. Essentially Sexton has played him like a violin then. I wouldn't go as far as cheating but it's certainly gamesmanship. But if a big fella like Rogan was coming to take a free shot at me I'd probably try it too.
Watch it again, he points to the floor to the same spot from where you see Parris pick his gumshield up from 10 seconds later.
if it werent for the deliberate rubbing of his head into Rogans eye, the turning away and hiding his head at the turnbuckle and the spitting the sheild out then I would have said that is was a great Bartezesque move - but the combination of all of those in the one round crosses the line into cheating imo.
Yeah well that's the aim of the game. It might sound heartless but ui he dies, he dies. They know what they're getting into before they get in the ring.
